Posted August 18th, 2010 at 04:09 PM by AliasQTip
Updated August 19th, 2010 at 11:09 AM by AliasQTip
Proper use of quotations is important in a thread. It’ll let you know who said what even when it happened three pages ago. But to many ‘Scapers, posting quotations is still a mystery. In this article I’ll teach you the ins and outs of posting quotations, helpful hints for their proper use, and – as an added bonus – the how-to on spoilers.

I want to quote a previous post in a thread. Where do I start?
At the bottom of each post you find a few icons. I bet you can guess which one we’re going to start with can’t you? Actually, all of these buttons (except for the Send PM button) quote the author of the post. If you click the Quote button () or the Quick Reply button () you go to a screen that has a reply box already filled out with the quoted text. (I really have no idea what the difference is between these two...

Posted March 19th, 2010 at 10:17 PM by AliasQTip
Updated March 20th, 2010 at 07:29 AM by AliasQTip
All good posters know the importance of proper spelling and its place in the forums. However, not everyone knows how to fully utilize the built-in spell-checker (or how to make it work when it doesn’t want to). Thankfully I can help. In this article you’ll discover a handful of useful tips that will make your posts more readable and more likely to earn you reputation and respect in the community.

There’s a built-in spell-checker?
YES! On every Post Reply/Comment box there’s a little spell-check icon
() in the upper right-hand corner of the form. By clicking this box a pop-up window will appear.

There are a series of buttons along the bottom of the window. If you’ve ever used a spell-checker before, most of these will be very familiar. These are: Change, Change...

Forum Tips & Tricks #3: Power Search

Posted February 24th, 2010 at 06:35 PM by AliasQTip
Updated February 26th, 2010 at 04:35 AM by AliasQTip
So you’ve come up with a great new idea for a thread/poll: What’s your favorite dragon? But, you want to make sure nobody’s beat you to it. (Or you just don’t want to upset a certain member of the community by not checking first.) Or perhaps you’re looking for an answer to a specific HeroScape question that you just know somebody’s asked before. What are you going to do? Use the Search Function of course! Now, I know what you’re thinking, “I already checked and I didn’t see any, ‘Who’s your favorite Valkyrie General?’ threads!” First, let me assure you the Search Function does, in fact, function. In this article I’ll show you how to get the most out of your forum searches.
Tip: If you are thinking of creating a new thread with the word favorite in the title, don’t bother - it already exists.
What Search Function? I didn’t see any Search Function!
For some inexplicable reason some noobs cannot find the search page or don’t think to even bother before creating a new thread or...

Forum Tips & Tricks #2: Maximizing Your Signature

Posted January 30th, 2010 at 03:44 PM by AliasQTip
Everybody’s got a signature. Some people say they can learn about a person by looking at the handwriting of their signature. Your digital signature is no different. In fact it can say a whole lot about you. Want to pimp your siggy? Here’s how.

How do I set up a personalized signature?
Most of you have already figured this part out, but for the uninitiated: At the top of the screen (after logging in) click the User CP tab. This is your control panel. It allows you to make various changes to your account on HeroScapers. Next, click Edit Signature.

At the top of this screen you’ll see a preview of your signature. Below that, a text box that looks similar to an advanced forum post box. And finally, a section that allows you add/change your signature picture or SIGPIC. Let’s start there.

How do I add a picture to my signature?
You can use either of the two options provided but I suggest Option 2 only for the reason...

Forum Tips & Tricks #1: Working with Images

Posted January 22nd, 2010 at 11:43 PM by AliasQTip
Updated January 30th, 2010 at 01:43 PM by AliasQTip (Added Q&A Section)
Images are often an integral part of posting in an internet forum. Working with images however, can be complicated and frustrating. In this article I’m going to cover everything you need to know about adding images to the Gallery, your posts/blog, and your uploaded files; as well as a few suggestions on their construction and presentation.

How do I upload my images?
Before you can post your images in a thread or blog they have to be stored online somewhere. If you’re a site supporting member at HeroScapers you can upload them directly to the Gallery. If you’re not, I strongly suggest you become a member today! There are also a bunch of other websites (e.g. Flickr, ImageShack, MediaFire, Photobucket, etc.) that will allow you to host your images for free.

Uploading to the Gallery at HeroScapers is straightforward and easy. Simply click the Gallery tab and then Upload. Follow the on-screen prompts to select, name, and describe the image file....
