HeroScape is a wonderful way to pass an evening with friends, but for a person with a more active imagination, it also is the perfect fantasy world to dream up scenarios, terrain, and stories. This blog displays my thoughts and creations of HeroScape fantasy.
Blogs vs Threads II
Posted June 3rd, 2008 at 12:14 PM by Nooblar
My last blog entry was about the merits of blogs vs the advantages of threads in displaying maps. I still think there isn't a lot of direct incentive to switch to blogs from a well-developed thread. However, I see a great opportunity for new map makers and non-established map threads to switch over to the blog system.
One of my primary complaints against Map Blogs is that comments don't necessarily bump up each post like they do in the forums. Also, many forum-goers don't often think to check the blog page when they're browsing threads. So I thought of a solution to both of these: cross-link.
I encourage all map makers to use the strategy of cross-linking everything between a blog and map thread, then disable blog comments. If the cross-links are easy to find, people will find their way from blog to thread and post comments, then others will see the thread bump and get to the blog through the thread.
Sure, anyone could have thought of this solution, so I'm not asking for praise of my genius abilities. I am asking, however, for other map makers to give this a try. Truth and the gang have done a lot of work to set up this system, and in talking to him about it I find myself agreeing that it has a lot of potential. To paraphrase what he said, this feature will gain momentum only if people are willing to hop on and give it a try.
All you cartographers, join me in giving the blogs another chance.
