Allegiance and why?

Utgar all the way. I am a Grut after all.

When did you get into Heroscape and why?

I saw the Master Set display at TRU numerous times during the holiday season of 2004 and in the early months of 2005. My son and I looked at it every single time we were in TRU, but since he was only five I didn't think my wife would go for it. When I saw a full set of Wave 1 alongside the Master Set (in early 2005) I had to have it whether h wanted it or not. Of course he loved it. We started to play regularly and I ended up getting multiples of Wave 1 commons through House Mouse Games (can you believe that) so we could play bigger and bigger horde armies.

Favorite aspect of HeroScape and why?

First of all I love the little toy soldiers...of all sorts. Why? Because I'm a 35 year-old fanboy that was in the sweet spot for exposure to some of the coolest toys and games every produced by American pop culture. Collectible figures for Star Wars first fueled this love, but GI Joe, Dungeons & Dragons, all manner of Sci Fi and Fantasy novels fanned the fire. When this game came out it had it all. It was Star Wars mixed with Lord of the Rings mixed with the Matrix mixed with old World War II movies and Kung Fu theater to boot.

I would be remiss to not mention the terrain though. As a big time hoarder of all things Lego it was the icing on the cake.

Favorite Hero and why?

Krug. Because he reminds me of ninthdoc on a bender, and he has whipped many a Q9 that faced me.

Favorite Unique Squad and why?

Krav Maga Agents. Because what other unit has individual nicknames that are universally known? Tommy Lee Jones, Trinity, and Will Smith also just happen to kick booty and though they may not be the baddest of the bad today they are still the gold standard of power, playability, and pure fun.

Favorite Common Squad and why?

Arrow Gruts. Hands down they are my favorites. Why? Because for 40 points a pop you can have a huge horde of them along with bonding coming out of their little blue pointed ears. Bonding with the Swogs is like shooting a 3x3 missle at a pesky squad just beyond their reach. Bonding with Mimring is like giving them helicopter support. And Bonding with Krug gives you a tank. Add that to the fact that they can receive adjacency boosts from the Swogs and that they can fly across a map with no fear of engagement...and well they just kick butt. Many a newb laughs at their one attack die and shortly thereafter they realize that a squad of Arrow Gruts pitching 4 or 5 dice is darn near impossible to deal with.

Let's take a journey into the past....


In the summer of 2005 I was completely shocked to see Wave 2 on the shelves at my local Walmart. I had no idea how long it had been there and that bugged the heck out of me. I was worried Wave 3 might already be out - and being the obsessive/compulsive geek that I am - I made a fateful trip online to see what I could find out. There was the old HS.net site link brought up by a Google search. People were there helping other people locate various items. I joined, asked for help, found the info I needed and prepared for Volcarren and Wave 2.5, which I had previously had no idea even existed.



In essence having a nice pool of information along with a healthy dose of helpful and friendly folks is what makes me like this community. Heck the Scape stuff hardly ever comes out anymore, but I still find myself here for some reason or another.
