Medieval Camp Highlights

As you may know sometimes on March Break and sometimes in the summer I run a week long medieval camp for kids aged 8-13. Itís not like regular day camps for kids- I work them hard with scheduled activities like: poetry, self defense, first aid, stealth, meditation, European and Japanese history, sewing, as well as some good sword action and questing through a large scary building looking for bad guys. Thereís no time to sit around and the discipline is strict- thereís still room to have fun but the lines are clear and are not to be crossed. Sometimes I think thatís what they like best.

The most exciting thing in this summerís knight school was one particular page who was an excellent fighter, almost fearless and quick with a smile. The unusual thing about this page was that she was a girl and no one knew. We always have girls in the program and they are treated the same as the boys- but boys and girls treat each other differently. This time the other pages hadnít...
