Authentic Figure Bases (for Customs) for Sale or Trade

I am selling/trading original Hasbro Heroscape bases for your customs, taken from several RotV master sets. I removed the figures as carefully as possible, then "graded" and sorted the bases according to how cleanly they came apart.

Restoration

In some cases I "restored" the little rips in the grass decal with my own special recipe of 11 secret herbs and spices. (Nothing toxic or illegal. Or weird.) I varied the visual texture of the restoration so as to blend in the patches as much as possible. In the close-up scans below you can see the restorations, but on the battlefield in normal play they will blend in without distraction.

Pricing

I'm not quite sure how to price these, but I at least have to set a price that keeps me from losing money vs. selling the original figure sets on eBay. I have to make worst-case assumptions that some will sell quickly and others will languish, requiring a later price reduction...

Sonlen's Dragon

Posted September 25th, 2008 at 05:50 PM by Just_a_Bill

This was my first custom. Built entirely from spare Heroscape parts, it was an entry in Taeblewalker's custom hero design contest, and it came in tied for second place.

Crappy photo - sorry.

Customs for People Who Don't Like Customs

So that's a pretty audacious title for an article, and not entirely accurate. But it's my mom's fault. One of the few childhood memories I have is of one of her old 33⅓ RPM records, titled Classical Music for People Who Don't Like Classical Music.
("Records" were antique CDs, boys and girls, back before we had MP3 players and before people wore their on the outside of their clothes.)
I don't especially like customs myself. Part of the reason is that, for me, they "corrupt" Heroscape by bringing in all kinds of things that don't seem to belong in Valhalla, such as G.I. Joes and pimps and yellow electric Japanese cockfighting pokιmice. For things to have meaning and beauty, there have to be boundaries of some kind — if anything can be art, then nothing is art. Another reason is that there's just so much out there in customs land that's, well, crap. Low-quality source figures, sloppy modifications, garish painting, and horribly...

This is a place to make mistakes. Post whatever you want — within reason! — but don't expect it to last forever.

Just_a_Bill's RotV-box Heroscape Collection Storage System

Posted August 25th, 2008 at 11:46 PM by Just_a_Bill

Several months ago I mouthed off about my cheapo storage system that's almost entirely based on RotV boxes. Well, here's the visual tour. Unfortunately this is more of a vanity page than a tutorial; if you want to try these stunts at home, you'd probably need to modify my methods to accommodate your particular collection anyway. Also, the images here are quite sub-par; my digitial camera is old and I am a terrible photographer. Don't bother clicking any of these pictures to try to zoom; I made them all exactly 400 pixels wide for the sake of browser efficiency (and because they'd look even worse if blown up!)

Let's start with what the boxes look like in my game closet:
Almost my entire collection is in RotV boxes. My rulebooks, synergy charts, etc. are in that 1/2-inch white view binder on the right.

Each box has one or more...
