Week@HS #27

Posted July 29th, 2013 at 10:54 AM by truth

While Valhalla welcomes some new Varkaanan units in Wave 17, let us take a moment to look at the original Varkaanans: the Varkaanan Blade Dancers!
While not able to bond with the wolf pack, the Blade Dancers have something the male Varkaanans lack: numbers. This common squad is strong on attack, but 3 defense is low for an 80-point squad. Good thing Varkaanan Blade Defense raises a Blade Dancer's defense when she is surrounded! Defensive Vault allows for easy glyph grabbing and a way to engage more enemies, boosting a Dancer's defense.

This week from HoSS, we bring you Obi-Wan Kenobi!
Using his Jedi Mentor special power, you can take a turn with Luke or Leia (depending on who you pick to be his student) after Obi-Wan! He can also grant his student an additional defense die when they are adjacent. His Jedi Mind Trick 14 can stop nearby squads in their tracks when they reveal an order marker. Even after death, Obi-Wan can provide a one time act of assistance with Obi-Wan's Spirit.

Custom of the Week
This week we're peering back into the past to feature a Warrior Seer who can see the future! Rule Falken by Netherspirit!
Rule can only see a few seconds into the future, but it's enough to help him avoid attacks. He can use this insight to aid those around him as well, making for a mighty protective screen. Rule isn't all defense and no offense though, his Halberd of Strength can bring the pain to the enemy when needed!

Don't forget to check out more of Netherspirit's customs!

Map of the Week
This week we take a look at brandonwiker's maps.
Even though this "King of the Hill" style map has small starting zones it can still accommodate 6 players, which is always good for a game night. Also with the line of sight blockers it means that each player's army can make it at least halfway to the peak without it becoming a full on snipers paradise. If you would like to see more of brandonwiker's maps[ you can visit his map thread here.

Custom SuperScape Creation
This week, we are bringing you Question by GreyOwl!
Question can use his Pseudoderm Disguise to lessen the attack dice used by non-adjacent attacks against him. He can also use his Conspiracy Theory power to distribute wounds between adjacent enemies.

Fan Fic of the Month
There's a good chance this needs no mention, for nearly all of the members on this site may have heard of this thread before. However, the list of fan fiction would not be complete without naming Akralon's massive thread, Good Morning Valhalla. Akralon - ahem, I mean Munthor - has taken it upon himself to interview every soldier summoned to Valhalla, and ask them their opinions of the war amongst... other things, in Valhalla's one and only radio talk show. Quite possibly the funniest thread in the entirety of the forum, you will not want to miss it. Rating: 4.4.

Are you looking for new ways to play Heroscape? Ever wanted to be a Valkyrie? Then War for Valhalla is the game for you! Developed by elvenwizard9, the War for Valhalla is it's own game, much like Risk, or for those of you familiar with Star Wars Battlefront, Galactic Conquest. It is a strategical two player game of conquest.

The orders will be sent, and when enemy clash, the war will be waged in a game of Heroscape.

Great job guys, I've always liked Rune Falken...good to see the HS vets represented.

That map looks like fun and the War of Valhalla reminds me of something I've been working on for my home games.

That sounds interesting ZB.

Nice work, Week@HS crew. Did the C3G feature get deleted?

Great job AGAIN guys (as usual). Thanks for all your hard work.

That map is awesome for six players, I only wish that I could get someone else in my local gaming group even interested in trying HS. I especially like the "War of Valhalla." I've loved playing RISK ever since I was in HS [High School] that was in 1964 to 68. As soon as I saw Hasbro publish the Lord of the Rings version and then the Star Wars editions, I realized that you could play the simple RISK game mechanics on practically ANY map just to make it more interesting and not so redundant. And yes, I did save those maps of Valhalla from the early HS [HeroScape] expansion sets to do that - hopefully someday.

However, I have also loved the concept of simultaneous battle games as described above with the individual battles being fought out at the Tactical Level on BoV's with miniatures and the larger Strategic War being plotted on a separate small scale map to indicate which territories were won or lost as a result of the fluid tactical situation. I am working on putting my ideas onto paper in order to coordinate such a scenario for a multi-player Middle Earth campaign.

Nice necro.
I always found this one humorous as it has C3G listed first with no content and C3G always has content.
