'Scaper-of-the-Month #74 - MegaSilver

Hello fellow ‘Scapers! Well it’s official; I’ll be handling the ‘Scaper-of-the-Month interviews from now on. You’ll notice a change in the format a bit, the biggest change being the regularity of the posts. To make it easier on everyone involved, I’ll be posting these monthly rather than (attempting) once a week.

Although Einar’s puppy was previously selected as 'Scaper-of-the-Month, it is unlikely that we’ll hear from him soon. If we do I’ll make sure his interview is posted. Since a replacement is needed and seeing as how MegaSilver has marvelously handled this blog for the past year, I feel that it is only fitting to honor him as ‘Scaper-of-the-Month for the month of February! Congratulations, MegaSilver!

'Scaper-of-the-Month #74 is...

MegaSilver

PROFILE:

Who are you, really?
My name is Tommy Adams. I live in Caneyville, Kentucky, which is about 15 minutes away from Leitchfield. I am a science nerd/geek, whatever you call it.

How old are you?
As of this interview I am 19. I will be 20 on June 10th.

What is your occupation?
I currently work on my family's farm. We quit milking cows last January, which my family done before I was born. (24 years or so.) We currently raise beef cattle, dairy heifers, and grain. But at this time we are slowly working our way to milking again. I really do not like farming, just so you know. Also, I am attending Western Kentucky University, commuting daily.

What other interests do you have?
I like to read. I read mostly science and science fiction books, and some Dirk Pitt novels. I also like to play video games. MegaMan Battle Network and Metroid are some of my favorites. Transformers is awesome. I still collect them. Sideswipe is my favorite from the movies, but I prefer Beast Wars' Cheetor.

What’s another board game you enjoy and why?
That's really a hard question to answer. Heroscape is really my passion. I would have to say Carcossone or Risk, since I am almost always guarenteed to get to play it with my brother and mom. But any type of war game like Heroscape I really like, even if I cannot play it.

Who, or what, is you avatar and how did you come up with your username?
Well, it is a long story for my username, so I will start with my avatar. I cycle through three avatars a year. The one you see now showcases all of my favorite Heroscape units. (I actually may need to update the picture, now that I think about it.) The other two are of my hand in a gesture as a Fishmon wearing a GenCon bandanna and Santa Hat. The Fishmon is a family in-joke, I guess you could say. When me and my brother were little, one of the things we used to do was to have our Fishmon attempt to eat Wormies (which were essentially a fist with the pointer finger as the worm's head. It lived in a shell). Just like the Tom and Jerry shows, the Fishmon never managed to catch the Wormie. And if it did, it was really a rock that the Fishmon ate. Bad indigestion always followed suit.

Now about my username. I originally joined the site as Silverman in Nov. 2008 but never posted. I quickly forgot my password, and somewhat lurked on the site until April 13th, 2009. At that point I decided to use a variant username, MegaSilver, to join the site, since I forgot the other. Shortly thereafter I realized I used the same password with the old account as with my new one. Since I had several posts as MegaSilver, I asked Grungebob if I could have my account switched over as Silverman. Grungebob said no, and locked the Silverman account. Now I'm MegaSilver, and it has grown on me.

You see, Silverman is the name of a superhero I had created back as an 8th grader. He was based off of MegaMan, but had entirely different powers. (Actually, the same person who I created as Silverman originally started off as a superhero named MegaMan, who looked similar to MegaMan.EXE but had different forms and lived in the real world at our time, not in cyberspace.) Silverman's main weapon, The Weapon L, was a large gun that could change into different weapons to help him in combat (And changed his coloration to boot to show what weapon he had. Guess what color he starts off as.). As you can see already, I could go into a long rant here.

Basically, I wanted to be named after the awesome superhero I created. (The story has grown sevenfold since then. More Megamen and enemies!) But I could not at this point since I forgot my passord. So I created an alternate account named after the most powerful form of my hero: MegaSilver. As you can guess now, in this form my Megaman combined the best of his two previous forms: Megaman and Silverman. And as you can guess, he could not stay in that form for long. (Actually, now at this point he can, but the form is water-downed from this Uber-MegaSilver form. Still better than each one seperate, but more in tow with The Cresecent... Argh! Got to stop rambling about the storyline...)

So basically, my username has nothing to do with the Power Rangers. (Doesn't mean I still don't like them though.)

Tell us about your title: Three-N-Two.
I'll try to keep this one shorter.

At my local Louisville tournaments, I almost always end up placing with a 3-2 record. Even at my first time at GenCon 2011 (except of Heat of Battle) I placed in at 3-2. My buddies Deroche and NecroBlade (but mostly Deroche) let Rÿchean know about the humor to this, and viola, a title. I'm very happy to have one, especially since I thought I would get one for my Unit Debates, which I never did though.

HEROSCAPE:

When and how did you first get into HeroScape?
I had seen the last 5 seconds of a Heroscape commercial on TV in 2005-ish. A few months later in the summer of 2006, when my family was about to go to Walmart, for some reason I recalled the commercial. I talked to my brother about looking for it in Walmart. Sure enough, a RotV was there. We played it as soon as we got home, and were hooked. I found the Heroscape.com site, saw the Vipers, and bought a second RotV that had the Elite Onyx Vipers in it, much to my brother's chagrin. Soon I was buying two of everything in the store: Wave 2-3 commons, Road sets, and an Orm's Return. I only bought the single knights pack for the Sabertooth.

What is your favorite aspect of HeroScape and why?
When I first bought the game, the main selling point to me was the customizable maps. It quickly became the mix of science fiction, history, and fanasty figures that kept me in the game. Now, my favorite aspect is playing the game with my friends and how it opened me up to the world of board and miniature games, even though I can't enjoy either as much as I would like. The largest part of me know is the games and how I can interact with people now, since before I was the typical shy nerd. Now I'm more willing to talk to people if I know they share the same interests as me.

To whom is your allegiance and why?
It has to be Ullar, and only because of the Venoc Vipers. I remember when I first got the game and saw the Vipers on HS.com, and thought the 0 defense on their card was a typo. I almost coughed up $45 on Amazon.com to buy one pack of them. Thankfully I found out on HSers.com beforehand that they were being re-realeased. Thank you for that post, Aldin.
Other than that, it would have been Einar. I love idea of historical units in a sci-fi/fanasty game. I don't think I have heard of any other game doing such a thing.

Who are your favorite heroes and why?
Unique: Venoc Warlord, since he works with some of my favorite units. Crixus, for his awesome sculpt and power. Zelrig for his scarlet red scales. (The special attack is just icing on the cake. ) Zetacron for his sweet long-ranged power and points.
Uncommon: Fen Hydra, for the cool sculpt and four attacks with slither and reach.
Common: Swog Rider, since he's my favorite prehistoric mammal, the Sabertooth. (Bah, Smilidon. But the other sounds cooler.) The orc on my first one came off when I got the original package. He looks neater without a rider.

What are your favorite squads and why?
Unique: Tawaga Samurai, with thier purple and orange robes (which meshes awesome with Einar) and their Bloodlust. Elite Onyx Vipers since they are a stylish black Vipers.
Common: Venoc Vipers. Need I explain? Mohicans, since they are ranged Vipers with an EOV-like power. 10th Regiment of Foot with their Bayonet Attack and Melee Defense. Capuan Gladiators in a Steamroller build.

What is your favorite Special Ability and why?
Frenzy! Multiple turns are awesome! Hint: Play like you only get one turn, but plan ahead so you can use your Frenzy effectively if you get it.

What is your favorite map and why?
rednax's Fyorlag Swamp. Such a simply designed map, and has a lot of fun and interesting options to play out on it.

COMMUNITY:

What do you enjoy most about HeroScapers.com?
Having a place where I can talk about things that I like with people that share the same interests as me. It is hard for me to describe how important this place is to me. I never fit that well into school, since no one else was interested in things that I was. I was simply the smart, nice kid who didn't talk that much to anyone. I feel very comfortable here, and now have since found friends on this site. Too bad we can't get together often, but once a month helps scratch the HS/gaming itch.

How many jobs do you hold (or have held) here at HeroScapers?
Well, I started the Unit Debates shortly after I joined the site, if you count that as one. (Speaking of which I should be keeping more tabs on that. ) I wrote a Unit Strategy Article for the Gorillinators. (Again, which I should revisit.) I used to run Scaper of the Week, until you took over for me, AliasQTip. Now I run Week@Heroscapers, which was essentially dumped on me. (At no fault of the other guys. I just happened to be the only one who could work on it somewhat on time, even though I joined to post SotW interview links.) By the way I'm still looking for people to help me.

Describe your favorite HeroScape moment.
Beating Jexik's Blast/Glad army with my Vipers at GenCon 2011. (A really worrisome battle near the end.) Also, beating NecroBlade's Granites on height with my Vipers' one-attack dice.

Is there any member of HeroScapers.com you’d really like to play against?
Any of the big names on this site, notably Aldin, since he's close enough to maybe face off, and dok since he's one of the best. I would like to face of against rednax on Fyorlag Swamp.

UNIT DEBATE:

What was the idea behind the Unit Debates?
I had originally joined the site to read the Books found on the site. I had always liked to compare units in the game to see which were better in certain situations. I was hoping that the Books would have such discussions, but hardly any did. So I decided that I would make my own. I really wanted people to argue for and against which units were better, so I could learn how to use them to their fullest potential. You learn about different sides to the units in these debates when you read them.

Which unit would you say is better: Eltahale or Frost Giant of Mohr?
Eltahale for sure. She has a teleportation ability to get behind enemy lines, and a squad clearing attack. She would be either a great shock troop or clean up. A Frost Giant is okay but more of a hero killer.

What two units would you like to see in the next Unit Debate?
I think I'll do Laglor vs. Sir Gilbert.

LIE DETECTOR:

Tell us two true things about yourself and one lie.
1. I busted my knee open when I fell off a tree rope when I was 5 and it has not yet healed completely.
2. I have met a famous author and politician.
3. I have only been out of state to Indiana, Ohio, and West Viriginia.

THREE FUN FAVORITES:

Favorite color: Orange

Favorite food: Breaded Chicken of any kind. (Except spicy.)

Favorite TV show: Stargate SG-1 (Why is it never included in the "Star" Debates? I think it better than the Trek and Wars. The main series alone had 10 seasons!)

CLOSING:

What message do you have for the ‘Scaper community?
Keep on 'Scaping. This community was brought together by Heroscape, and we hold together because we all share interests with each other, even with non-Heroscape things. 'Scaping is more than just Heroscape, it is the bonds that keep us together here. And it is what keeps me coming here daily. Thank you to all you Heroscapers!

Whom do you pick for the next ‘Scaper of the Week?
I would really like to see an interview from rym or H_E_H, the previous interviewers, but since they do not get online very often I am going with Deroche.

. . . I'm not sure whether I should be scared that you've become prophetic.

Well, since this popped up, I might as well as spoil it.

#3 is the lie; I have also been to Missouri when my dad decided to go farm sight-seeing.

I still have the scar on my knee from the fall.

I met the Former Governor of Kentucky and a children's book author when I was in elementary school.

-----------

Somehow I forgot to mention that I like to play Axis and Allies. I play online all the time now via Gametableonline.com. My username is TheVenocWarlord, if anyone is on there.
