Luckiest Battle Ever!

Battle Report: Capture the Flag in the Forest

Wonder of wonders, my fifteen-year-old daughter has begun playing with us. She says it’s because of this blog- that she didn’t really understand what HS was about until she read what it was about… which seems to be the problem with everyone who’s never played it. And did you know that this site is blocked at her High School?

Anyway, so we’ve all been playing, and my daughter has been enjoying it. We’ve tried to hold back- just get her to play a little at time, so we don’t blow her mind. She gets the same army every time: Warriors of Ashra, the frog warriors (custom squad with only 2 move and land and five in water plus little spears that can sometimes stun as well as wound) and Xantha.

Xantha is a favourite of ours. You might know her as Ana Karithon, but before she appeared in HS DnD she was Xantha. She’s not a healer in our game, but a powerful sorcerer with a decent ranged...

Oh my gosh Otonashi!

Posted February 11th, 2010 at 12:29 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
With all the hoopla about green lizards that love dragons I decided to write a romantic Valentine’s Day story about green eggs being hatched by a dragon named Ham. Just kidding. This is about Otonashi. You might think there is no connection, but maybe there is?

My family and I don’t have many of the wave boosters. We didn’t know where to buy them and honestly there’s only one store that sells them in this whole gray city. Plus we always have to watch our pennies. We had MS1 and 2 and were very excited when we found the booster with Otonashi- our first booster.

We started “the heroscape jar” on the kitchen table, and whenever anyone had some extra change, it went into the jar. (my sons mowed lawns and shoveled snow to add to the jar) We saved up enough to get most of wave 8.

Chardris gets a little bit of play and we ending up getting the Templars to go with Sir Dupuis but we never found any of Kato-Katsuro’s boys (except...

We Leave The Dead On The Field

Posted February 6th, 2010 at 05:33 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Yes, yes, I read the rule books long ago, and I think it recommends removing dead figures. Their bases are kind of big, and they do get in the way. But it didn’t seem right, to me and my sons. And so we stopped cleaning up the bodies.

At first we were amazed at the carcasses. They make a map of where the action happened, where it moved to next and where each figure fell. Like a crime scene. We all play favorites and each spot where our number one hero dropped was somehow…. Sacred.

Once we played a massive battle- the scenario was simple- one side had to move ten refugees across the board, and the other side had to stop them. The refugees were guarded by troops and there were many mounted figures. (We have a lot of custom horses and other mounts). The attackers swooped in on Isengarde Wolves- nasty mounts with biting mouths- and the destruction began. The piles of bodies became so large that it impeded movement. Figures began to gain height...

Sparks From a *Rep* Virgin

Posted February 5th, 2010 at 10:58 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
I am a rep virgin.
I’m very new here and I have never given rep to anyone yet.
I’ve been reading about it, I think I understand how it works, I’ve seen photos of how it’s done, yet I’m still scared. What if I don’t do it right?
I know I’m new and any rep I can produce will be small, but size isn’t important, is it? It’s the intention that counts, right?

When I first became a site supporter I didn’t know anything about rep. And then when I found out I felt revulsion- I didn’t want rep, I didn’t want to be judged or a judge, the whole thing seemed to be some sordid stroking fest that terrified me. Did I mention that I can be a bit of a recluse?

But as the days passed, I read more about the site and more importantly discovered what isn’t exactly written -that there is a community here, and for some of us, like me, I will probably never meet any of the faces behind the avatars. Rep is a friendly way of saying we appreciate...

Saving Scape!

Posted February 4th, 2010 at 09:32 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Go back to the land!

I have a nasty fever with a rotten cold. It’s been through all the kids so I guess it’s my turn.
As I lay awake last night, amidst feverish nightmares, a brilliant plan congealed in my congested noggin -a plan to save Scape.

Certainly there has been much written about DnD Scape and what’s happening with that. I believe in recycling as much as the next hobo, but I hunger for the sweet taste of Classic Scape. Is DnD just slightly retooled to appeal to a broader demographic or is it a last cash grab in a fading product line? I decided to believe the former, for we all need something to believe in, now that Obama’s first hundred days have past. I think WOTC are trying to get even more people interested in Scape- and that’s when the idea came to me- farmers!

There’s something like 6 million farmers in the USA, and I bet they don’t have time to learn a new game because they’re too busy driving...
