Thanks Americans

Posted November 6th, 2012 at 12:14 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
I have just heard a tale from the war of 1812 and I wanted to say Thank You to you Americans. I live in Canada in one of the areas that saw the most fighting and even though it was two centuries ago, people here still feel strongly about it.

There were only a few thousand British troops in all of Canada at the start of the war. Britain was dancing and warring with the French in Europe and keeping Canada just wasnít that high on their list of priorities. Much of the war was left to the Canadian militia. Then, as now, we had very few people in comparison to the United States.

Everyone around here knows the tales of all the big battles and the great heroes. Tecumseh, Brock, Barclay- I suppose there were American heroes too but we donít acknowledge them In Canada. Iíve heard of a lucky guy named Admiral Perry but he was a bit of a villain, from what Iíve heard. But this latest tale has no big heroes- only squads.

Amherstburg is a small town...
