Hunger Games Miniatures Update!

Posted May 12th, 2012 at 01:55 PM by Mossman
I finally washed and based some of my Hunger Games miniatures. They look great! Thresh (pictured below) is my favorite. Most of the other miniatures in the set are pretty bland- all the unnamed tributes who die right away aren't given active poses; same with Rue.

Here's a link to see all the figures I've based so far. (Cards to follow):

And here's Thresh:

Last Stand of the Templars

Posted April 13th, 2012 at 08:22 PM by Mossman
In honor of Friday the 13th...

Sir Duncan clutched the sacred Templar banner and stared down at the scene of horror that spread out before him. Pouring out from the Black Forest was an army of foul beasts, their glowing eyes and wicked fangs gleaming in the morning light. Never before had so many wolves united in a single force.

"Can we hold out until reinforcements arrive?" Sir Berit's voice held little hope.

"We must." Duncan clapped Berit on his mailed shoulder. "Else the sacred relic fall into the hands of Utgar." He shuddered inwardly at the thought.

"Sir, my men and I shall meet them on the field of battle and, should fate smile upon us, drive them away." On any other man, Sir Dupuis' smile would have bordered on crazed, but the Knight had led his cavalry to many an improbable victory.

Duncan nodded and barked out orders, organizing what might be the final defense...

The Big Move

Posted March 22nd, 2012 at 02:57 PM by Mossman
Well, I just completed a major move: Atlanta to Santa Fe. My wife has been working in New Mexico since August while the kids and I were in Georgia. We're excited to be back together and living in such a beautiful place. Our house has a nice view of the mountains and my younger daughter and I have been exploring our acreage and have already found several awesome places to make cool pics with HeroScape minis. (Her idea, not mine. I swear.) The only negative so far is our "rural high speed internet" is slooow. I feel like I'm back in 1998. Anyway, can't wait to be active on the site again once we're all settled. (And to unpack my 'Scape. My wife will kill me if she sees how many boxes it took to hold it all.)

Hunger Games Miniatures!

Posted February 23rd, 2012 at 12:09 PM by Mossman
Just stumbled across some Hunger Games miniatures put out by Wizkids. There are 27 in the collection: each tribute, plus 3 "bonus" minis (extra poses of Katniss, Peeta and Gale, I think.)

The good: They are comparable in size to the D&D 'Scape minis. Paint jobs are not bad at all- better than almost any D&D mini- though I'll give them a wash to bring out facial details.

The bad: Most of the poses are lame- just the tribute standing there. They're all mounted on pedestals, perhaps to represent the platforms that lift the tributes into the arena, so they'll have to be removed to use in 'Scape. There are no names on them and no roster in the package. Each base has the district number on the front so you'll have to look up the tributes' names on your own. (Those that even have names.) They're also blind purchase.

Here's a pic of Cato and Glimmer along with a Pathfinder mini and 'Scape mini. Sorry for the low-quality pic. In a...

Desert Oasis- Video Tutorial

Posted January 26th, 2012 at 04:41 PM by Mossman
On a recent thrift store visit I found a set of salt and pepper shakers shaped like Egyptian obelisks. That inspired me to create desert oasis terrain.

Here's how it came out:

Just for fun, I did a set of videos.
