Who's this Finrod guy, anyway?

I suppose I may as well use this blog feature that I get as a Site Supporter. Maybe someone will read it. Someday.

Hi, everyone. I'm Finrod. I've been playing Heroscape since right around the time Wave One came out. I was on Heroscape.net for a while, got to see it disappear... moved on to heroscapehq.com... got to see it disappear... and then joined Heroscapers.com on the inaugural day. I love this game, and I love it here.

While I enjoy the game itself in all formats - tournament, draft, general-specific, or whatever, I find myself somewhat fascinated by the background story. More specifically, I enjoy reading about the characters themselves and imaging them in this bizarre situation they find themselves in.

So a couple of years ago, I finally wrote my first fiction piece for Heroscape called "Maternal Legacy." It was a short story for a contest we had on the site here. It didn't win, but I got a lot of compliments on it. The story focuses on Morsbane and his conflict with Sudema and Khosumet (who killed his mother).

At various times, I toyed with a sequel. When Swarm of the Marro came out, I knew there was huge story potential now. Vydar allied with Ullar!!! That means Morsbane and Sudema are now on the same side! How would the elf wizard react to that?

So I'm working on that. In the meantime, I posted the original story in this new thread. I'm calling it all the Morsbane Chronicles. We'll see if I get anywhere with it.

::listens to crickets chirp::

Someone? Anyone?

Oh, well. I'm talking to myself again.

Sad times, indeed, back then. But it made me chuckle to read this.

I also agree about the interest in the back story. The flavor the plots of Heroscape's Valhalla add to the game help to give the characters and armies an little extra punch, making them even cooler to look at on the field. Like playing with GI Joe or Star Wars action figures growing up, and knowing their history from the movies, comics or cartoons, and infusing those stories into your own created episodes. The story aspect is another one of those minor details which help make Heroscape that much cooler to me in how I relate to the game.

I remember your story, and liked it a lot. I'm glad that you've got a sequel in the works. I entered that contest as well but didn't win either. My story was a little abstract and didn't hold to the background of the characters, as I took "artistic liberties" in my story. Mine had Drake recruiting Spartacus and the gladiators and then taking them to battle. The AE dropped late or something and I can't remember much else, but it was a fun contest. I wish to one day have the time to try some more writing. Maybe I'll try to stay within the correct background of the characters

Anyway Finrod, I look forward to the sequel.

Seriously, I like your idea for developing some of these internal issues in the alliance. I've always wondered what would happen when Valguard and Morsbane and Sudema and Guilty and Dead-Eye, etc. all run into each other in the alliance.

Enjoy your work!
