C3V Fiction Contest
Author: Pumpkin_King
Back in May of 2019, C3V launched a contest in the “Fan Art and Fiction” section of this site for writing the bios of C3V units. Below is the winner of that contest and some interview questions with the winner, TheAverageFan.
TheAverageFan’s Entry
MICROCORP TROOPERS
Daemon, son of Timothy of the Weston guard, stared out at the wind-whipped tundra before him. Nothing. There was always nothing. The great northern fortresses of Jandar had many artifacts of great value, even in a smaller outpost like this, but it would be madness to try to take them, so far north of the war as they were. But outposts needed guards, even if it was more out of principle than anything. Daemon sighed and continued his walk further down the walls. Always nothing ...
A guard with keener eyes might have seen the small army down below right outside the castle walls: white-clad soldiers lying prone, hiding amidst the snow and winds. No one would have tried to break in. No one but Vydar.
Two of the soldiers pressed tightly against the wall, handling their rifles and hand-gesturing to the others. A third crawled up and stuck a brick of semtex to the fortress, “Deploying C4.”
While Daemon made his rounds above waiting for time to pass, the troops below checked their synchronized watches, also waiting. At 12:15 on the dot, Vydar would make his move across all of Valhalla.
Interview with TheAverageFan
When did you get started writing?
Oh gods, too young to recount to be sure. It’s always been an interest of mine.
What have you written in the past that you’re proud of?
Literally anything on the Fanfiction subforum on this site, all of which can be found in one place in “The Book of TheAverageFan.”
What’s your favorite part about Heroscape?
The infinite customizability of it. Infinite potential maps, infinite potential game modes, and near-infinite combinations of units.
What do you think about the intersection of the game and storytelling/fiction?
Since Heroscape units can come from literally anywhere and from any genre, there’s a huge wealth of storytelling possibilities around them, and that’s not even counting when you mix and match them together.
What are some official bios or pieces of Heroscape written material that you love?
I’ve always liked Isamu’s bio, and Thormun’s Journals from the official site has always been well written.
Why did you choose the Microcorp Troopers here?
I was surprised they didn’t already have one, and their snow theme gave me some ideas.
Thanks again, TheAverageFan!
