Making soap and other adventures.

Posted February 16th, 2009 at 02:10 AM by Melwing17
Random blog time!

My wife- we'll call her "Abbie", since her name is... well, Abbie.. anyway, shes been on this kick lately where she's making stuff. Not just like making dinner, but actually making stuff.

Soap.
Not like pouring pre-made stuff from a bottle into soap molds. No, sir- she's putting on goggles, getting out the blender... getting the lye, etc- and freakin' making soap. Great soap, too. Smells great and works... well, works like a bar of soap should.

Dish scrubbers.
She found this awesome, but admittedly weird way to make scrubbers for the dishes. Can't think of a better word than that- not sponges, but the ones you really scrub with. Anyway... she's taking plastic grocery sacks and cutting them in this particular way so that they pull out into one very long continuous strand. Then she knits them (yes, with knitting needles) into these nifty little scrubbers. They work great. This isn't one she made, but just...

Nifty Battle Report

Posted February 13th, 2009 at 12:50 AM by Mr Migraine

Okay, so my brother (nicktheant) and I decided to play some 'scape tonight:

We played on a hexagonal map similar to (but bigger than) "Highways and Dieways" with all the criss-crossing road and tree stuff. There are two raised areas on the sides with the 4 hex trees, and two large ruins near the starting zones. Two glyphs lay in the middle, a Move+2 and d20+1, not too powerful.

Our 475 point armies (becuse he insisted on making our armies in private and then battling as opposed to a draft.):

ME
(475)

Zelrig
Krug
Kaemon-Awasome
Marro Warriors

NICKTHEANT
(470)

Major Q9
3 x 4th Mass
Raelin

Round 1: I won initiative and put all my markers on Zelly; his were all on Q9. I flew across and managed to barbeque 2 of his squads and wound Raelin before Q9 killed Zelrig, thanks to the awesome leaving-engagement-attacks.

Round 2: I won initiative with...

Week @ Heroscapers, February 9th

Image of the Week

Back before Heroscapers.com, Bobbo created the Herospoofs as a way to poke fun at the various opinions and abilities of the units. Even though they may be old, they are still good for laughing out loud.

Thread of the Week

Jay Cain has contributed to our little community here by using his talents to build an outstanding Army Builder. It's very powerful, allowing you to see several statistics about your army and providing a variety of custom settings. Look for expansions and more features in Battleplan in the future!

"Reverse psychology actually works better on people whose parents have deemed them too young to start teaching to read. Which precludes everyone here."

So says InfinityMax of mr_rex777's...

The Conqueror Worm

Posted February 7th, 2009 at 01:28 PM by AliasQTip

Yet another insidious idea from my ingenious mind. I’ve created a monster! [Maniacal Laughter]

Here’s the concept: Four armies wage war, not with each other, but on a monstrous worm burrowing just below the surface of the ground. The conqueror gains the glory and honor of ridding the land of Valhalla from this hideous worm.

Conceptual Battlefield Image

As you can see from the concept battlefield, a twelve-segmented worm lurks in the low plain in the middle of the arena. The segments are made from single-hex grass tiles and represent the worm just below the ground. Up to four players can attempt to destroy the beast.

At the beginning of each round, the winner of initiative can move the worm by taking a hex from one end of the worm and placing it on the other end. The player can do this 3 or 4 times depending on how fast you want the worm...

February Releases

There hasn't been much Heroscape going on around here lately. The big release at the end of January was our new baby girl and soon to be in the top 5 best Heroscape players in Africa. Up until today I was studying for and taking seminary exams. But last night I was studying Greek and thought it was only appropriate to take a break and play a game with our new units:

Sacred Band x 3
Parmenio
Marcus Decimus Gallus

Sacred Band.:
I think the Sacred Band are pretty sweet. I heard some trash talk about their 'floppy' hats and strange linen shirts, not to mention skirts, and I guess if you think about it, it's all kind of weird, but they look great on the battlefield. They've got swords, shields, grimaces, and the rest does not really matter. If you have problems with the things above the knee, look at the nice footwear. They're also pretty strong looking. I haven't compared their size proportions with the massive Finn or even...
