Week @ Heroscapers, November 17

Image of the Week

Many 'Scapers have recently expressed an interest in multiplayer maps with differing start zones. Dignan has obliged with the BoV-nominated "Can't see the Jungle". Check out Dignan's maps and the wealth of other map threads if you want to try something a little bit different.

Thread of the Week

There's an interesting thread that's recently been started regarding the Deathreaver's Scatter Movement. Can a wounded 'reaver move? Can it vacate a glyph to be followed up by a healthy 'reaver taking its place during the Scatter phase? Or can you only Scatter "healthy" rats? It would certainly change the way many of us play the Roborats. Chime in and voice your opinion in Cover Fire vs Scatter or Which Comes First, Scatter or Rat Death.

Blog of the Week

It would be impossible to say themes do not influence Heroscape. Many people got into the game because they saw a theme they liked. Other people love using themed armies. Furthermore, some people like the story behind the theme. NamibianScaper has divided the themes further. Heroscape Homeworld Themes divides each planet's figures into themes, and dissects their stats.

In last week's spirit of having an modern look at conceptions from yesteryear, check out the thread Things you NEVER want to see in Heroscape, started by one of "Those Who Must Not Be Named" (e.g., a now-banned member). Two of the bigger "NEVER"s were another Master Set and a Sixth General. Some arguments were made against them, but I wonder how they hold up now?

Week in Review

This week has brought about some questions about what will happen to Heroscape. In the most recent podcast, when asked if Heroscape was in a coma, truth gave a simple "Yes", but he also stated that this year's NHSD was the biggest yet. Furthermore, the stalwart defense of the Heroscape ruleset on BGG shows the dedication that scapers have to our game. Even if the support from WotC is lackluster, the best thing Heroscape has, it's community, has the power to perpetuate the line by doing what they do best: playing Heroscape.

Regarding the 6th general--leading up to the first Gen Con with Heroscape, I made some inquires about the "missing" sixth general that were met with stony silence (in contrast to other inquires that were replied to in detail).

When Woo was revealed, I had a short conversation with a WotC staffer that basically went, "It's a hex game, of course there was a hidden sixth general! Duh!"

I had made some noise about the nature of that general and I'm still hoping upcoming revelations will follow those lines.

I like the idea of BoV maps without standard 24 hex start zones. The one displayed above is pretty much yelling heroes only, and I think this is a good direction.

If squads were slightly better on this map, I would completely aprove of it.

Stupid deathreavers, as if they didn't cause enough havoc in the game being underpriced...now we have to argue about how broken they actually are.
