Retro (Classic) PC Games (DOS Days)

Posted November 4th, 2008 at 04:13 PM by Nadi
I grew up with a computer at a very early age. (4 years old, to be exact.) It was a gift to my sister when she was 8 one Christmas. It was a Commadore 64 and she didn't want anything to do with it. Instead, I was mezmerized by it and I quite grew fond of the games and such that I could do on it. It wasn't long after that as I started to grow older that my fondness for video games started to really grow. I had all the systems growing up:

Atari, C64, NES, SuperNES, (never was a Genesis fan...), DreamCast, PS2,... still waiting on my PS3. But, you get the idea. Video games were at my heart when I was a lot younger.

Things changed for console gaming when we got our first 286 computer. (Tandy, I believe.) I started to mess around on it a little bit, but computer games quickly became something that I got really into. (Remember the old classics: Space Quest series, Police Quest, King's Quest, etc?) Man, did Sierra have it going on. I grew up on...

'What Lurks in the Bushes' Scenario

Posted October 23rd, 2008 at 10:30 PM by Nadi
So, our Tillica Jungle sets came in the mail today from HouseMouse games. I was really surprised at the quality of these trees and bushes. They were nothing like I expected them to look like, even after seeing pictures on other people's maps. We got two sets, along with the large character pack. We quickly added the trees and bushes to the 'Silica Slits' map that we already had setup, following the rules and guidelines for the terrain (another cool feature I was unaware of.) I'll be sure to post pictures on the SHS site.

Anyways, in playing tonight, we were trying to come up with some cool use for the spiders, as it was obvious that nobody was going to draft them. I've seen people use zombies as 'third party' characters, so I figured that the spiders would work as well and be a great way to spice up the game. So, after a little debating and some talking, here's what we came up with:

(Note: Our original scenario required the use of TWO Tillica Jungle sets,...

SHS Map Update (coming this weekend)

Posted October 16th, 2008 at 06:04 PM by Nadi
Work'n on a big update at the SHS to post my most recent maps. You've seen my other Marvel maps in my other blog posts, I've got a few more that I've worked on, plus I took a stab at doing a much larger scale map.... larger than most of the ones that I've worked on in awhile. These should be available at the SHS before the weekend is over:

In My Backyard - 1M, 1RtFF

Kind of a different approach to maps. I think this one has a good feel (and it's not quite as symmetrical as my other maps... *gasp!*) The more I make these, the more I'm starting to like the idea of small Marvel games.

Pocket of Seclusion - 1M, 3RtFF

The idea behind this one was to make a Marvel game that could incorporate 3 players. (Most of my marvel maps focus on just the Marvel characters...

First Picks: Always the same?

Posted October 15th, 2008 at 05:10 PM by Nadi

It's the magical moment when you sit down and start what could be either a long (or short) round of HeroScape. The markers have been dealt out, the dice divided, the army cards stacked and neatly in each group next to you. And then you hear it: the sound of the d20 being rolled by the first person in the draft. The first draft pick always seems to be such a crucial moment in our games. Granted, the SHS crew isn't as 'hardcore' as most other Scapers that you would meet on here. Still, we love the game for what it is: an absolutely fun and addictive game. Most of our games are on larger maps (we love the long drawn out battles), but from time to time, we manage to sneak a small on in there.

So, the d20s are rolled and it comes down to you having the first draft pick. Who do you pick, if you are given the first pick of all units? Is it different each time? Or, do you have a unit that you must absolutely have on your first pick, no matter what?

More Marvel Building

Posted October 11th, 2008 at 11:51 PM by Nadi
So, I've been trying to expand the Marvel section over at the SHS. For those of you that might not know (I actually still run across people here a lot that have never even heard of the SHS), I run a site that host the maps that I have been building / playing on for the last year. If you've never been, I invite you to come and check it out. It's located at:

http://heroscape.catalystradio.com

So, I've put together two Marvel maps in my last blog post (they aren't on the SHS... yet...) and here's a taste of two more that I came up with tonight. I've had poeple request that I try to make some maps using the VW terrain set, so I thought I would take a stab at those and see what I could come up with, only using the Marvel set at the 'base.'

Man, is it hard to build something with so little pieces.

Anyways, here they are:

Collateral Damage - 1M, 1VW
