The Complex

Here’s the map that you’ve all been asking about. I’ve been working on this project off and on for a long time and now I’m just adding the finishing touches. The battlefield is awesome! Lots of changes in terrain, great line-of-sight blockers, glyph power-ups, and tournament friendly symmetry make this map extremely playable. And what’s more, two words, customizable weapons!

After reading some interesting threads about weapon mods (like SuperGen777's) I decided to have a go at it myself. The final custom weapon cards will be business card sized. Each unique hero in your army can be equipped with one. I currently have twenty – count ‘em, 20! – unique weapons/equipment. (Many were inspired by RevDyver’s – Weapons not yet in HeroScape thread.) My wife and I have done a little playtesting but a lot more is needed. I want to get the weapons balanced and priced right before finalizing the cards and posting the complete package. If anyone is interested in playtesting the weapons too, let me know.

Weapon Card (Concept)

Check out my Custom Weapon Card Thread for more info and an overview of all the weapons. (Some have been changed a bit since playtesting began.) Enjoy.

Wow! You've just taught me a lot about using castle walls as "industrial" or maze like settings. Neat. Your special weapons, new to me, obviously has anticipated the official Portable Glyphs idea too.

Yep, they're not just for castles anymore. And as far as the glyphs you see on the battlefield, they were part of a zones-battle. The wife and I tried it but it didn't really do much for the map. They just weren't worth grabbing and holding. So I've changed it to a glyph hunt with two Glyphs of Brandar as decoys. Haven't played it that way yet but I'm hoping that it will make the overall map more playable. I hate making a nice big map only to find that just a small part of it gets all the action.

By the way, the weapons worked really well in the games my wife and I played. Moriko had setup a proximity mine early in the game and later my Venoc Warlord using his "Power Gauntlets" - not mittens - pushed my wife's Sgt. Drake onto it. I was cool. My wife had Raelin with a Mini-Gatling Gun. That was scary cool.

Lots of hard work. From a purely technical standpoint, I use Microsoft Word for my cover page that contains the scenario text. Any images are grabbed from VirtualScape and tweaked if necessary with PaintShop Pro. Obviously VS is used for the build instructions. I put it all together with PrimoPDF; a virtual printer that prints to a PDF file. I hope that gives you some idea.
