HS Codex Relaunch: Issue 3
Posted May 13th, 2014 at 12:33 PM by truth
The Codex is back this month with its third issue! You can download it here.
This month, we're focusing on a theme of history. Three main articles highlight the history of Heroscapers (by El T), the history of custom 'scape (by Heroscaper Guy), and the effects of the Wizards of the Coast era on Heroscape (by El T). In addition, you'll find a thorough and fascinating history of Online Heroscape by awesomeunleashed, and an in-depth analysis of how to use one of C3V's oldest units, Zogross Hardscale, by Taeblewalker.
Other new and notable features include an introduction to a new series of articles on Maps and Scenarios by new staff member 1Mmirg, as well as a thorough account of the playtesting behind IshMEL's Lord Revadac, put together by our other new staff member, Ixe.
Recently, we've also expanded our online presence, with a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Check those out if you haven't; they'll be our primary methods of making announcements in the future. In addition, we now also have a subscription service, where people can be emailed the Codex automatically each time one is released.
We hope you enjoy this month's Codex, and here's to many more to come!
Cheers,
The Codex Staff

Gotta say I really love the cover too! Really looking forward to reading the History article, especially since I jumped onto this crazy train mid-stream. I occasionally read posts about things that were before my time and I look forward to getting some background and historical reference.

Thanks for the positive feedback on the cover, guys! I wanted to make something that'd reflect on the theme inside, something we hadn't done for the first two issues.

CommentYes the cover is awesome. It's a nice parody of several Evolutionary themed bumper stickers that I've seen. But I really love the History theme of the entire issue. I've been a HeroScaper almost from the very beginning and I've tried to keep up with all of the trends. I say almost, because I waited until Toys-R-Us began marking down the 1st edition RotV Master Sets to affordable clearance prices in the Spring and then I was hooked on accumulating everything that was released. I hope that I can find time soon to read this issue of the Codex, but if may have to wait until I finish planting my wife's "Victory Garden." And I thought we already won that war . . . anyway, I'm also looking forward to fresh, organic produce in a couple of weeks.

Oye, I don't know, though - an article on the History of Customs that references several users by name, but doesn't ever mention GreyOwl or Griffin? Not sure what to make of that .... It really read more like an overview of some customs offerings that are out there than a true "history."

I'm pretty sure Wave 8, AA, and TJ were developed prior to the WotC handoff. They were all on the poster given out at Gencon '07 along with the first Aquilla unit, Master Woo. It was also included in the SotM Master Set when it came out.

You are correct, Hogg.
Wave 8, Aquilla's Alliance, Ticalla Jungle, and Wave 9 were all done and ready to roll when wotc was handed the reigns. The first thing wotc had any design influence over was Collection 10. |
