Sparks From a *Rep* Virgin

Posted February 5th, 2010 at 10:58 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
I am a rep virgin.
Iím very new here and I have never given rep to anyone yet.
Iíve been reading about it, I think I understand how it works, Iíve seen photos of how itís done, yet Iím still scared. What if I donít do it right?
I know Iím new and any rep I can produce will be small, but size isnít important, is it? Itís the intention that counts, right?

When I first became a site supporter I didnít know anything about rep. And then when I found out I felt revulsion- I didnít want rep, I didnít want to be judged or a judge, the whole thing seemed to be some sordid stroking fest that terrified me. Did I mention that I can be a bit of a recluse?

But as the days passed, I read more about the site and more importantly discovered what isnít exactly written -that there is a community here, and for some of us, like me, I will probably never meet any of the faces behind the avatars. Rep is a friendly way of saying we appreciate each other. Of winking at a friend a thousand miles away.

I donít think itís a label so much- the great line of green gnats of rep that some Scapers have always made me suspect them of something- I think itís more a friendly thing.

I have been repíed several times and in the beginning it shocked me. Iím a single father with a soul-eating job and things like ďthanksĒ or ďthat was goodĒ or ďfunnyĒ arenít things I can remember hearing for quite a long time. Iíd thought I was over it. But then a little rep came my way and now I feel all warm and fuzzy. I do exist. Iím not alone. Someone somewhere on this planet knows I exist and was happy to hear my opinion or joke or news for a moment. Itís like falling in loveÖ

I often wonder what Heroscape actually is. At first I thought it was just an excellent combat engine- the fighting is simple, understandable and quick and it is still strategic and exciting. The terrain is awesome. Customs rule. So itís more than just a ďcombat engineĒ.

Today, all warm and fuzzy, Iím thinking Heroscape is a conduit for all sorts of creative energy- like an electrical circuit. It connects the imagination with the adventure loving, history fantasy strategy part within me but now I find it continues on and wires me to my children and theyíre wired back to me and now I find Iím connecting to other folks on this site. All because of this game. Thatís not normal, is it?

Rep is little electrical pulses- from one part of the circuit to another. Thanks, new friends, for energizing me! And now I know itís time for me to send some back to youÖ.

UPDATE! I got neg rep today! Disapproval! Iím bad! I feel like a rebel!

Heroscape is part of the technological revolution that is changing the human race, and the way we creatively communicate with each other. You get a feeling of being part of a Whole that is greater than yourself. When old channels give out, new ones emerge.

I never really thought of rep that way but now I understand it is really what you said, showing people that we appreciate what they do and we respect what they have to say. I got the fuzzy feeling when I first got positive rep too!
