I wasn't copying it from anywhere. When I typed here on Heroscapers most letters on the keyboard made a different letter appear on the screen. But if I pasted from Notepad it was fine. Also, the problem disappeared 5 minutes later after I had quit Internet Explorer and then started it again. I guess we'll never know what caused it.

I can't remember exactly what I typed, but it's could be decipherable by looking at the letter frequency. One I'm sure of is that a capital I made a capital C appear.

I finally figured it out! It happened again in Word tonight. Ctrl+Shift triggers it. If you press Ctrl+SHift again, it's normal.
