Steamroller Baby!

Posted April 23rd, 2009 at 09:51 AM by Aldin
My level of anticipation for Wave 9 is ramping up and even though I have no idea what it means, I have decided to succumb to "Steamroller Baby" as you can see in my signature. Honestly, I suspect it has nothing to do with anything but the excitement, but in the interest of rampant speculation:

1) It refers to the Dwarves. They are Steampunk and have some sort of mechanism justifying the phrase. Is there a dwarf hero on a steamroller with a trample stomp-like ability?

2) It refers to a new class of soulborg. The Steamroller2k is the fastest of the soulborgs, leaving even the Deathreavers in the dust. Do they have a DW7k-like ability to ram someone and explode?

Just some fun and random thoughts.

I think I'll add it to my sig too. I have an open line. All this crazy speculation is exciting...I just wish we had pics.

LOL! GB started the snowball, but I think I was the one that pushed it down the hill when I pointed out his sig in the Wave 9 thread.

Rampant speculation... yay!

Yeah I think it's just excitement. Like it will "steamroll" the other waves or something.

But it sure gets me excited and how much they are building the wave up!!!

And when I saw this thread title and that it was by an administrator I got pretty pumped pretty fast.

It's probably some inside joke unrelated to Wave 9. I have a feeling this will be as relevant as that whole thing about "The Nigh" that got so many people worked up last year.

Thats what I thought Clarissimus...thought they were going to Steam Roll the site and come back with a new one. In fact I even had a dream about it.

My opinion is that the Steamroller comment is in regards to how wicked Wave 9 is gonna be. It's gonna Steamroll all other waves released so far in regards to it's awesomeness and powers.

I think it could be any of those...

I think steam rollers attract Northeasters for some reason. 6 of 7 comments were.

The best thing wave 9 could do, IMO, is not only be good in its own right but bring back other figures from unplayability.

We have strong indications that there will be a squad that bonds with human gladiators, but will they be any good? A good example was how Sir Gilbert brought the knights from mere playability into outright dominance (to paraphrase s_p's power rankings). A bad example is how Khosumet is just as bad with B-wolves as he is with A-wolves.

I know another Marro Warlord will help the Grok Riders, but unless he gives them a massive defense bonus their sweet spot will still be "on the shelf" (can't remember who said it first.)

Aha! Possibility three (and not original to me):

Steamroller is a Gladiator squad ability that allows them to roll for Frenzy or Human Gladiator Bonding whenever they kill something.

Loving all the excited responses folks!

While we're recycling ideas in a spirit of feverish anticipation...

EDIT. This theory allows for Migol to be included and for the "repulsors" to be called repulsors. The other units we're expecting would need to have names different to those on the packets, but that's not unusual. We could have Secutors as the gladiator squad and Tiny Dwarves. Alas, Ullar's Protectors would be out of the running.

EDIT 2. The Braves could be either Apache or Aztec; the Defenders could be Omnicron Shielders with Jandar Soulborg Bonding; the Dividers could be Ticalla Bugthings fighting for Aquilla,... I'm starting to actually like this theory!
