Wave D2: Educated Guess and Wild speculation

Wave D2: Educated Guess and Wild speculation

Now that all of Wave D1 figure and powers have been revealed it’s time to move on plus Wave D2. Usually I avoid conjecture but I think this time the odds are in my favour. After compiling all facts and hints and some research I’ve come up with what I think is a pretty good guess at what is in wave D2.

Wave Name and Booster names for the up coming wave D2 Ogre & Goblins (common pack), Golem & Wyrmlings (common pack), Heroes of Khovaire (unique pack) and either Warriors of Eberron or Warriors of the Last War. One of the last two will be the Wave name and the other the third common booster name

Ogre and Goblins
We’ll start with here because I think this is pretty straight forward (or it is alternatives coming). These will both fight for Utgar. The Ogre will be the double based figure and have some sort of wild swing like power to strike multiple adjacent foes and possible a fear aura. The goblin will be a 4 figure common squad be small 3 and have a tricky personality. Power wise the goblins should have a sneaky power, climb x2 and very fairly quick.
Spoiler Alert!

Golem and Wrymlings
Again this booster appears to be pretty cut and dry. Here we have some wee baby dragons. The big question is are the wrymlings a squad or common heroes. Let explore both possibilities. There are 6 six figures that could qualify as wrymlings, 3 labelled wrymling on the bottom row and 3 very young dragons. While the images don’t show it both groups are about the same size with top row a bit larger. I think we will see sculpts repainted as a common squad of 3 or 4 wyrmlings. I like this option because it gives the designers a chance to give Aquilla some draconian love. I think they will be bronze dragons. Bronze dragons are consistent with alignment and habitat of Aqilla. Despite what some will say about alignment they may be blue in colour. I don’t feel that D&D alignment (and looks for that matter) is that important in the case of dragons in Heroscape. The precedent set by colour matching dragons colour to that of the Valhallan general they follow out weights the D&D alignments. Flying is a given as a power along with a breath weapon. The main reason I think they will be bronze or blue is this will give them some type of lightning breath whereby group acting together can set up a chain reaching, small number of attack dice but affecting many figures.
On the other hand we could possibly get 4 common wee baby dragon heroes. Of the six I would rule out the very young black for the simple reason that his sculpt is problematic on a single hex base. For rest I see the Bronze once again going to Aquilla with a lightning breath special attack. The Red wyrmling helping out Mimring in Utgar masses with a fire breath special attack. The copper wyrmling will be repainted purple/red to discover tutelage under Zelgir's wing, attacking with a fire ball.

The golem I’m predicting will be summoned by Vydar (yea) is this nifty Iron golem. This is definitely a double based uncommon hero. Construct will be the class of our large metal friend. I’m not certain what his powers might be but he should be tough as nails.

Spoiler Alert!

Warriors of Eberron or Warriors of the Last War
No matter which name it’s safe to say the War Forged will be in this booster. The tricky part is determining what the other 2 figures will be. The war forged will be a three man (construct) power house melee common squad fighting out of the grey corner for Vydar. The 3 figures chosen fit the best together as a cohesive looking squad. The other 2 figures in this booster are going to follow what I see as an attempt to cover most of the D&D fundamental characters. The uncommon hero will be an Eberron nomadic Elf rider, who will fight for Ullar giving him the cavalry he needs and we desire. The most difficult of the D&D main races to include in Heroscape without a snicker (my opinion) are the Halflings. After looking at the Halfling D&D figures one would conclude that they are just too small for a scape base. The Halflings of Eberron provide a way to solve that with the Clawfoot rider. Here’s a Halfling riding a dinosaur (raptor looking creature) it on a single sized base, perfectly themed for HS.

Spoiler Alert!

Heroes of Khovaire
Maybe the most difficult booster to prognosticate but I’ll take a stab at it. What we have here is a Goblin leader, a Steel Predator (the double based), an evil Rakshasa, Warforged Wizard and the 2 most like candidates for the Kurrok mini. Reasons for selection are a follows. The Goblin riding the worg is the only figure I could find that looks like a hero and/or leader. He will fight for Utgar and provide his troops with support ability. I chose the Warforged Wizard as the Warforged hero because it different enough and represent magic which is a major aspect Eberron. He’ll fight for Vydar and be a bad ass. Also summoned by Vydar is this nasty looking Steel Predator, the double base figure in the pack. I chose a Rakshasa because they prevalent on Eberron and because shape shifter have not been tackled at this point in HS. He is definitely a follower of Ugtar.

The last two figures represent those figures which may be Kurrok the elementelist. The first is a Hobgoblin war sorcerer who has some elemental type powers. The second is a little who just happens to be a summoner of elementals. If the hobgoblin is Kurrok I think he will follow Utgar. The lady will follow Ullar.

Spoiler Alert!

But this probably all too logical and I’m not even close on anything. If right about even one I’ll be happy, but just in case let’s take at look at some alternatives.

Curve Ball or my second guess
There is a large possibility that the designers could throw some big surprise at us. I’m going to take a look at some alternative choices that track the given information.

Ogre and Goblins
First alternative that we should explore here is that the uncommon Ogre is actually an Ogre Mage. Eberron has magic in abundance. The figure present below fits into Einar’s clan right along side Gorei-Oni better than just about any other D&D mini. Powers are hard to call for a wizard type can be drafted in multiples so I’ll leave that alone.
I think it’s a strong possibility that the goblin squad is actually Hobgoblins. The hobgoblin figures fit in better size wise with HS figures and are more cohesive looking as a group. I’m not talking about the paint jobs but about the over look of the sculpts.

Spoiler Alert!

Golem and Wrymlings
The only alternative golem I see as viable is the Stone golem, if we assume the golem will fight for Vydar (which I am). I see this construct as slow but power house melee unit.

I’ve covered two possibilities with the wyrmlings the third is that dragon figure are not the small figure present earlier but the next size of dragon that are medium sized. These Dragons still fit on a single base are some what human sized.

Spoiler Alert!

Warriors of Eberron or Warriors of the Last War
I’m pretty convinced the Warforged are going to be squad in this booster but let see what else the may accompany them. I included a couple of more mini possibilities. My selection of this Magma Brute for the uncommon is a little off the map but fit with what we have seen so and with scape terrain. This is a great looking figure and could be easily adapted to have a number of Heroscape powers as he fights for Utgar. The Blood of Vol cult plays a large part in the lore of Eberron. A common Blood of Vol cultist may be a nice little undead worshiping blood thirsty hero. His power could include undead enhancement of some sort and a blood attack.

Spoiler Alert!

Heroes of Khovaire
Now it gets really tricky. First a lizardfolk hero for the Green scales is a strong possibility, second we an alternate Warforged hero, a Hag, owner Hobogoblin war sorcerer is back but not as elementist but as the Hobogoblin hero and finally as elf conjuror as Kurrrok.

Spoiler Alert!

Very, very nifty set of speculations. I can't wait to come back with a scorecard in a few months.

Good speculation and excellent pictures - thanks! I think the Warforged and Golems could have "Construct" as a species and then have more specialized classes.

Wow Atmospro, those were awesome guesses and even if you are 15% correct I will be very pleased.

That Hobgoblin sorcerer was in some shot of a dungeon, standing next to some elementals. I think that's Kurrok.

Awesome stuff, overall.

This was fun to read, and I can't imagine you're too far off on many of your guesses. I'm hoping that you are wrong in some cases, as I'm still wanting another unique Drow hero, an uncommon Drider, and possibly a Mind Flayer!

Some solid and fun guesses. You are definitely possibly partially correct! Having the minis to choose from adds an extra spice to speculating on Waves 11-12, doesn't it?

Sure, but would you really have preferred that he waited?

This was great to read and I hope you're right about a few, especially the halfling. LOL
The Rakshasa makes sense to me and so does the second guess of the lizardfolk hero. I'll probably go over this several times. Well done!
