We can't ignore this any longer . . .

Well met!

We can't ignore this any longer . . .

Sunday morning, I flew to McAllen, Texas to find out what's really happening to immigrant families ripped apart by the Trump administration.
There's one thing that's very clear: The crisis at our border isn't over.
I went straight from the airport to the McAllen Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing center that is the epicenter of Donald Trump's so-called "zero-tolerance" policy. This is where border patrol brings undocumented migrants for intake before they are either released, deported, turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), or, in the case of unaccompanied or separated children, placed in the custody of Health and Human Services.
From the outside, the CBP processing center looks like any other warehouse on a commercial street lined with warehouses. There's no clue about the horrors inside.
Before we could...

A Very Good Time to be a 'Scaper!

Well met!

Secret Island Base of 'Scape

To begin, some shout outs:

To all those who have aided and abetted my Kha obsession (especially my SoV mentor @BiggaBullfrog), on this site and among the Gang of Four, a big thank you for your patience.

Kha appears to be on track to be released as an SoV unit (although it may be posthumous ).

To @Dignan and @Flash_19, thanks for their fine maps. I've been suggesting Dignan's maps in my blog for years (see Kolakoski's Map Suggestions), while Flash_19's are relatively new on the scene.

To dok, thanks for Flip 'em first,

Islandscape 2018!

Well met!

Big year in Karate - climaxed with promoting to Sensei - but expensive (promotion ~ $400). So not going to Karate Summer Camp this year. The silver lining to this is that Summer Camp occurs on the same weekend as Islandscape (7/22), so I will be competing again this year.

Super Duper Kudos to Warbanner for coming up with the coolest format yet -- 5 armies (500, 525, 550, 575 and 600 points, no unit in more than one army) played in succession, with the 600 point army for a potential championship game. The NYC Gang of Four will be represented in its entirety at this event. We may have a little mini-tournament in early July, and/or chas and I may get together separately. Last year's performance proved once again that my level of play is not quite elite, so I feel justified in displaying a not quite elite level of cheesiness this year. I have already built 5 tentative armies for this tournament (see spoiler below).

Spoiler Alert!

Kha Formal Playtest - Battle Report

Well met!

On 5/16, chas and I met to formally playtest Kha for SoV.

We utilized the 16 Card Draft, with the specific sets of cards that can be found here.

We managed to play 6 (10 Round) games, 2 per set of cards, on a map patterned after Sirocco by Mad_Wookie, as follows:

Game 1

chas' army: Akumaken, Red Ants of Aunstrom x 2, Chen Tang, Cormin the Dark.

kolakoski's army: Jarek Guy, Venoc Vipers x 2, Estivara, Kha.

Kha was strong and lucky. Round

The 16 Card Snake Draft Format for Classic/VC

Posted May 6th, 2018 at 06:45 PM by kolakoski
Updated May 7th, 2018 at 10:04 AM by kolakoski

Well met!

Some time ago, I devised a draft format for use with C3G. The plethora of figures available in the combined Classic/VC, and recent events, have revitalized my interest in this format.

The 16 Card Snake Draft Format.

Snake Draft.
It's a draft where the positions flip flop every round. For example, if someone drafts first during the very first round, they'll draft last the following round, then they'll draft first again in the next round, and so on.

So, with 4 players drafting 1 card at a time, the order would be: 1234432112344321. Each player ends up with 4 cards (out of 16).

Of course, there are an infinite number of ways to choose those 16 cards. Some totally subjective, current principles:

1. Select a map.

2. Select 4 sets of 4 cards each. Make it so that all cards in a set are of roughly equal value. The Book
