San Diego Comic Con 2010

Posted July 30th, 2010 at 12:46 AM by Xn F M
-And Good Times Were Had By Most

Comic Con this year was good, aside from the lack of 'scape (or even any kind of WotC presence). This was the first time in more than a few years I've bothered to go on Sunday. Usually I'm completely broke by then and I've seen everything so it's really not worth my time. This year was a little different though . . . .

Thursday
I had planned on missing the beginning of the convention to go to a job interview (conveniently only a mile away) but having been offered a promotion on my way out the door Wednesday, I blew it off.* Thursday was pretty cool; we caught the Red panel, I'm going to make a point of seeing this one in theaters even if I have to be that loser that goes by himself. It looks that awesome. We went to dinner at the Rock Bottom** After an awesome chorizo burger and a few three-dollar draughts, we headed back to the convention center for something . . . really everything get's a bit hazy here, though I do...

Dragon the ***** Down a Peg

(These Rocky and Bulwinkle style blog titles are getting much harder to come up with. )

It's no secret that I don't like Raelin. I don't like the way she plays, and I don't like playing against her. She's the Heroscape town bycicle.

What's probably the worst thing about her though, is that all the things that counter her, are either unreliable, or they cost two to three times as much and they, generally, require somewhat specific armies to function at any kind of reasonable efficiency. (Braxas needs a screen, so that's two thirds of your army right there, Cyprien dies to the massed commons that tend to run with Raelin, Deadeye Dan is trash, Laglor needs more Vydar range and a screen to get enough shots in, Shades . . . well, they're unreliable and not very good at much at all {I'd probably build a shade army before trying DeD though}, Syvarris needs a screen to get enough shots in to take her...

Windows Update Rage

Posted January 14th, 2010 at 01:25 AM by Xn F M
So for various reasons up until about 6:30 tonight my computer had never been connected to the internet.

I figured I'd take advantage of dog-sitting for my stepmother to bring my system in and do all the various updating and patching it's missed out on over the last ~9 months. I swear Windows has been updating since 6:55 (Pacific time), that's three and a half hours. This is almost as bad as installing service pack 2 on XP.

I think my head might explode if this doesn't finish up soon . . . .

Thats 485 ponts.
I know Ullar doesn't have alot going on in the single-general dungeon crawl, but Jotun, really? I don't see that pary making it past the first room with a ranged squad in it ~50% of the time. (In a party vs party scenario you might have something though . . .hmmm . . . party vs party scenario .)
I'm sort of following up on myself here but the idea of party vs. party scenarios seems to me like it might be a decent solution to the problem of how you create a dungeon crawl style tournament. The way I see it there are a few basic issues that need to be solved to make a dungeon crawl style tournament possable:

1) One player is playing the adventuring party, and the other covers the local baddies. The party needs to pick up stuff to increase...

SoCal Slaughter '09

Posted October 20th, 2009 at 03:59 PM by Xn F M
So National Heroscape Day has come and gone again. Unlike last year I actually had some company driving up, my brother (thebigbadbird) and I carpooled up with Wukieslap. None of us had really done as much preparation as we had planned, so we were all working out our armies on the drive. I knew I wanted to play Atlaga and Minions, but I wasn't sure about the remaining 200 points.

By the time we got there I'd settled on this as my primary army,

Atlaga
Minionsx2
Q10
Marro Warriors
Isamu

with this as my secondary (we had the option of switching armies after our second loss).

Anubians x4
Nilfheim
Dumuteff
Isamu

Round 1 vs. IHeroscapedYourMom
on Broken Skyline

I really liked seeing BS as my first map. I fealt confident that I'd be able to put Atlaga onto that central pillar and control the middle of the map without too much trouble. IHYM was playing Q10,...
