I know someone on TV this Monday! (5/19)
About two months ago my mom called to tell me this guy I knew in junior high school (who was a ski club buddy and major crush of mine) was in the local newspaper because he had been on MTV's "Made" and was now filming something for ABC. I was pretty shocked, so of course I had to look all this up and give him a call about it. . .

Now I don't really keep track of many people from high school, but since this guy was so into snowboarding he has continuously used the local media to publicize his snowboard endeavors. My mom was a ski club chaperone, so she always tells me when he's in the news back home. From this I knew that straight out of high school he moved from Ohio to Breckenridge, Colorado to be a snowboard instructor and pursue his Olympic dreams. He runs a nonprofit group to help snowboarders raise money for competitions around the world. Not bad for a guy who got a C average and never went to college!
A few years ago, some of you may recall I lived in Denver. While I was there I contacted this old friend and was surprised he was excited to hear from me again. (We were never great friends in school, and I don't know if he ever knew I had a crush on him at the time.) I think he just thought it was cool to see someone from "home" out in Colorado, so we arranged a brief hello meeting for the first time in 8 years. He was genuinely excited and happy to see me again.
That was in 2006. Since then we only kept in touch by way of being Facebook friends, and that's the extent of it. I never deleted his cell phone number though.
Fast forward to a few months ago

In my Googling of his name and MTV, I found out he was not actually "Made" into anything, he was the professional snowboard coach MTV picked to help their star girl get "made" into a snowboarder! This guy is definitely not cute anymore, but it is cool to see someone you knew starring in a TV show. The complete episode is on MTV's web site in streaming video. I think it aired this winter and is still on re-runs.
I decided to call him and tell him I saw his show and see what his life was like since I last saw him in Colorado. When I dialed, his cell phone went straight to voicemail. It was him saying he was going to filming "something for ABC" and would be "out of cell phone service for a few months". I was like WTF?!?! I figured he was filming some sort of snowboarding special in the middle of the Swiss Alps. I left a voicemail and didn't figure I'd be at the top of his call back list when he got home.
A few weeks passed and today I got a Facebook message reply to my voicemail. He tells me he's going to be on ABC this Monday on the season premiere of the Bachelorette! At first I'm thinking "surely he is not good enough looking to be one of the bachelors. . . he must be some crazy guy who runs by in the background of a few scenes, or something insignificant like that." I went to their web site and clicked to the profiles of the bachelors, and sure enough, there he is as a bachelor!
Ironically I think he looks uglier than ever, yet he's on a TV show that's supposed to be all hot guys! I think he sticks out like a sore thumb in that group of pretty boys. He says the show is going to be funny, and I'm betting he gets kicked off in the first episode, so I'll be watching it!
In the end, the only thing I personally get out of this story is some sort of vindication that I know how to spot a universally hot guy, ever since junior high school.

My wife and I are actually big fans of the MTV show, "MADE." They often have marathons of the show on the weekends, so we sometimes spend lazy Saturdays just hanging out in the living room, working on random projects, and watch the show. And we saw the one he was in where he was the coach for the princess girl who wanted to be a hardcore snowboarder.
Honestly, that is the only show on MTV I have any interest in. The rest of the shows on that network (outside of 'TRUE LIFE') are mindless drivel promoting the continued deterioration of our culture and our youth... but I digress.  |

That's funny you have seen it. I ended up turning this Bachelorette show into a viewing party for a girls social group I'm in. Interestingly, 13 girls have signed up to watch this show with me, but only 4 signed up to go to the Chronicles of Narnia premier on Sat. Gee, I wonder why?

I thought he was a goner tonight too, but he's in the final two!!! A few weeks ago I noticed his Facebook account disappeared, I'm guessing he was getting a lot of fan mail.

Man so many OMG's anyway that pretty awesome to see someone you know be Famous, I haven't experienced it, but I mean the high school I am going to is where Sam Walton went. So I mean thats something I guess.
