It is my final year of high school.
I've applied to three schools now: Georgia Tech, Florida, and Central Florida. I cannot wait to leave this town. I'll be receiving my decision from GT and Central Florida in about a month, UF next year.
So, engineering is what I'm going after. Don't really know which sort at all. I'll have to make up my mind soon, though. Any engineers out there who can offer some insight?
Other news? I've been away from this place for a while now. I miss it in a way. I've played Heroscape maybe a total of five times in the past eighteen months. Not too interesting for me anymore. IB has been a pain in the booty these past four years in high school.

I went to grad school in EE at Georgia Tech, and much of my family (aunt, uncle, brother, cousin) went to Florida. GT is obviously the stronger engineering school, and has some really great instruction in my (biased - I was a TA) opinion. Students are happier at Florida, though.

US News ranked GT as the third best Engineering school in the nation, UF at around thirtieth. If I happen to President's Scholarship semi-finalist at GT, that would be great, because I'd much rather get my undergraduate there. However, I'm not willing to pay $27,000 for out-of-state tuition alone at GT when I could go to UF for free (via pre-paid, and the Florida Bright Futures scholarship). It all depends on the money.
The female to male ratio at UF is tilted significantly further in our favor compared to GT. That probably explains your last point.  |

Are you planning on going to graduate school? That's one of the main things that influenced my decision to come to UCSB over Cal (at the time the better Chemical Engineering school). Many institutions don't like their undergraduates to stay for graduate school (And that's what they told us at Cal...things got really quiet in the room after that).
The way I see it, you can go to the better school (GT), not have as much fun and pay more, but have a greater earning potential/better contacts when you graduate, or you can go to UF, have fun, save money, but have to work harder when you get out to make up for going to a 'worse' school. |

I can't speak to engineering directly, but in general, what you do at the school and with your summers 'off' is usually more important than what school you actually go to.
