GenCon 2011 Battle Reports

I took very brief notes before or after each of my 22 matches at GenCon, so here's my attempt at recording the awesomeness of my gaming experience.

Thursday I played Capture the Flag with a team of Jotun, 10th x3 (last second decision over DCoT x4, Raelin, MBS, Ogre Pulverizer).

Game 1 vs stubobj on Ticalla Sunrise
Dwarves x4, Q10, Marcu

So much for picking Jotun and Co. over DCoT... My dice started out hot and 10th mowed down Dwarves forcing Q10 to come out. And then I couldn't hit him. At all. My opponent took control of Wannok, and Jotun moved to stop him. However, after Q10 blocked 3 skulls (out of 9 dice!), Dwarves killed Jotun in only 2 turns.

Loss, 0-1

Game 2 vs Jeff on Ticalla Sunrise
Braxas, Charos, White Wyrmling

My 10th moves out first and met Braxas mid-field. She gassed 3 in one turn, but went down to WTF in the next. Charos did a heck of a job cleaning

C3G WAVE SIX: AVENGERS ARRIVE!

"Greetings brethren! It has vexed me sorely that thou hast not arrived till now.", Thor shouted at his Avengers allies. "Well, we wouldn't have taken so long if it wasn't for Stark's out of date Mark I suit clunking around. I mean my ants are faster than that suit, Tony!", Ant-Man snarked. In an attempt to defend himself, Iron Man bellowed, "THEY ARE

Been a while...

Posted August 8th, 2011 at 12:37 AM by Fen_Hydra
Hello...

I haven't been active recently on here, there's been a bit of stuff going on recently. The main thing is a move, from Wisconsin to Arizona. We've arrived, and school starts tomorrow.

I've also found a few other things I enjoy doing, and have been busy with those. Unfortunately, when you're about to move, Heroscape isn't the most practical way to spend your time due to space/pickup time.

However, now that I'm all settled in, I'll probably be getting out the tiles again. Even though school's starting, I should have plenty of time. I am not joking when I say a sample question from the "honors testing" was: The bird ___ in the sky, A) Sat B) Flew C) Slept with maybe a D choice.

Of course, I won't have as much time, but I may (finally) update my map thread (I have an awesome idea) and maybe a few other things. I wish I had the time to continue, but it mainly depends on homework and such.

So anyways,...

Heroes

Posted August 6th, 2011 at 11:34 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
I was in the drug store yesterday waiting for a prescription (son has a nasty ear infection) when this old man with a cane came up behind me. He was very talkative- his name was Frank, short for Francis, but he liked Frank better. He was 92 years old and in World War 2 he had landed on the shores of Normandy amid heavy fire and then was a part of freeing Holland. He took two wounds.

Anyway Frank was saying that everyone asks him what the war was like and that everyone thinks that it’s like they show it in the movies. He said in reality it was nothing like that, and that in the movies there are all these heroes but in actuality there were no heroes. It was just regular people getting through something much bigger than themselves. He said the ones who went crazy were the ones who won the Victoria Cross and the Medal of Honour.

I have a hero, though I didn’t realize it for a long time. His name was Arnold Walker and he was my uncle. He died when...

Create Your Own Maps!

Hail Utgar!

I have been creating scenarios for Heroscape almost as long as I have been playing it. It is a great pleasure to take iconic moments from historical and/or fictional stories, and reset them in Valhalla.

Pirates!, for example, was designed to recreate the ambience of a classic Errol Flynn, ocean-going Swashbuckler, Captain Blood and The Seahawk being prime examples.

A Swell Party! and The Rapture of Raelin! are about gatherings such as weddings, investitures, etc., where enemies are at close quarters in a "neutral" setting, when battle begins, as found in numerous novels.

I have been recently working on a Lost City
