Rev gets preachy about HeroScape

Let me tell you why I love HeroScape and HeroScapers.com so much. (This is being shared with non-HeroScape people...or might be, anyway, so understand that it may seem pretty basic to you about the game.)

It begins this way: "I believe that God gave me the gift of cancer…twice!"

I know that those two words “gift” and “cancer” seem strange next to each other. Let me tell you my story.

I thought I had gone through my “mid-life crisis” in my late forties, with all the attendant pain and bad decisions that come when you feel you have passed your peak, are not going to go any further, higher, or deeper in your calling, are getting burned out, washed out, and just want to get out. That happened to me, and I thought I knew how to handle it. I quit the race to a larger congregation or a more prestigious position. I went and taught at a little college for a few years, served in a temporary position at my presbytery for a few years more, and...

Karl Jung, in his p sychology, developed a theory of human personality that was based on discerning the archetypes that so often appear in human mythology and are reflected in the way we think and act. Many of those archetypes also appear among the figures of HeroScape. In fact, it just may be that as the Rorschach tests using inkblots can uncover the inner workings of our minds, so too, examining the armies and figures we like to play with in HeroScape may also tell us something of who we are and how we think and feel...Consider, first those who love orcs and want armies that swarm with them.
