The Greatest Battle (report) of All Time!

Back in April of 2007, I participated in a 4-player game with three other Cali'Scapers. The game itself was truly memorable. Though I think what made this "grudge match" even more amazing was due in large part to the forums here at Heroscapers.com. From throwing down the gauntlet, to specifying the rules, to drafting the armies, and then to the mother of all battle reports, the four of us used the forums not only in a functional manner to complete each of these. But the forums also allowed other members a window into this event, from the very start and all the way to the very finish.

What follows is only the battle report. If you'd like to see the entire thread, complete with the draft and various member comments, you can find it by clicking here.

Otherwise, sit back and enjoy...

A brief history of the HS fansites...

For those who may have missed this post in the forums...

Let me try to clear up some of the history as best I can:

In the beginning, Hero created Heroscape.net. What was originally established to be a small site where he and a few friends could talk about the upcoming release of a game called Heroscape, as well as possible map builds and various mods, became something even Hero could not foresee. Among these few at the beginning were none other than Craig Van Ness and Rob Daviau, two of the creators of our beloved game. And yes, Grungebob was there, as well.

Word about the game began to spread, and as people Googled, "Heroscape" to try and gain more info about the game, the majority of them turned to and joined up with Heroscape.net (or .NET, as most refer to it).

The amount of members grew rapidly, as did the discussions about the game....

Custom Unit: Storm Shadow by Annerios

Figure used: Annerios custom created figure.

Note that this is NOT my custom creation. When Annerios sent me the Storm Shadow figure, he included a playable Army Card.

Recently, I put together a Vydar card template to use with upcoming custom figures of mine, and wanted to put it to use. So, I used the stats and abilities from the Army Card Annerios sent over, and then used a photo of the fig I had taken for the collage I posted a while back.

Thus, I'm posting this card more for aesthetics, as this card is NOT posted for discussion and edits. Eventually, there will be a couple Vydar units of my own for critique. But for now, let me know what you think of the look of this Vydar card. Nothing too major is changed. Some small nuances here and there. Though the character background is pretty different from...

The things I like most about Heroscape...

The thing I like most about Heroscape is...

(why do I feel like I'm writing a second grade essay?)

... that so many of the elements that make up the game are a culmination of favorites from my childhood.

Action Figures: Much of my childhood was spent playing with little plastic figures. From GI Joe to Star Wars, He-Man to TMNT, and just about everything in between. While I never crossed over the characters from one universe to another (that was blasphemy, really. Boba Fett versus Tomax and Xamot?! 'Ells no!), I loved the characters, theme, and story behind them all. I also appreciated the look of the characters, and the visual nuances which made the figures their own self.

All of this is in Heroscape, too. A myriad of characters, each with their own story and style. And the figures are some of the best prepaints on the market! I don't even mind the mixing genres. Spiderman vs. the dragon Braxas? 'Ells yes! And as someone mentioned...

Bio for Frosticus Iciclus

Posted June 24th, 2008 at 09:49 PM by hextr1p
I'm entering Taeblewalker's Custom Unique Hero Contest, and noticed several of the entries came with a bio. Being that one of the items TW judges the custom unit by is flavor and theme, I decided to write a bio for my own entry.

Albeit, this bio was intended to be a short piece, but I got a little carried away. Okay, a LOT carried away. With that aside, read below and let me know what you think!

* * *

Joshua Morgan of the 4th Massachusetts Line pulled upon his scarf, tightening the piece of cloth around his face, trying desperately to protect himself from the hostile cold of Thaelenk’s glacial tundra. He tucked the loose ends of his scarf into his coat, his many layers of clothing having long ago lost their battle to the brutality imposed by the frost and sleet of the ice world he now travelled. His right hand clutched his coat collar shut, and his left instinctively rested upon the satchel hanging at his side, the contents of which urged him...
