Mutant Chronicles CMG - A Review

Posted June 14th, 2008 at 02:27 AM by ninthdoc
My review of the Mutant Chronicles Collectable Miniatures Game could be summed up by saying this: I really want to like this game, but Fantasy Flight seems to be making this really difficult for me. I had an opportunity to play this game and please believe me when I say that I wanted to like this game; I really did. Unfortunately, after pining over it for two years, I was literally heartbroken that it just didnít do it for me.

This might not be entirely fair, since FFG does not know me intimately. They donít know that I prefer true miniature games as opposed to turn-based strategy games. They donít know that Iím an obsessed completist. They donít know that Iím willing to sink an ungodly sum of money into a game so long as I feel that Iím getting my moneyís worth. They donít appear to know that theyíve produced some really awesome figures that I would love to incorporate into my other games (funny, but Heroscape comes to mindÖ). My question go FFG is simple: Shouldnít...

Monty Python Fans: REJOICE!

Posted May 31st, 2008 at 01:02 AM by ninthdoc
BBC America has started showing this classic show on Friday nights. Two episodes back to back - AND THE FILM HAS BEEN RESTORED!

I just watched part of the first episode they were showing (and indoctrinated my children, much to my wife's chagrin ), and I'm here to tell you Monty Python has never looked better. The clarity of the image was unbelievable. You could hardly tell the episode was filmed in the 70s.

That's all. Spread the word!

Review - AH's Star Wars Queen's Gambit

Posted May 5th, 2008 at 12:14 AM by ninthdoc
Well, I've still not gotten to play my copy of Black Ops or the Growing Hunger expansion to LNoE. Rˇchean is nothing if not consistent and Geddy hadn't gotten to play Heroscape in a long time. So Thursday night was all about 'Scape. Three different three-way games. All were intense and right down to the wire. I'd say the three of us were evenly matched, even if it did take both of you guys teaming up on me to take me down. :P

Iron Man on Friday night was great! I took my son and we met Geddy and sat with a guy who is the judge at the Heroclix events my son and I play in.

Saturday was all about Free Comic Book Day. My son and I made a haul. We met Fat Momma (my boy's second time and my third). We got tons of free stuff!

Today was all about Avalon Hill's hard to obtain game from about 8 years ago, Star Wars, the Queen's Gambit. This is the mega cool set up game with two game boards on either side of a three level tower. I got this as a steal...

Fellow 80's music fans allow me to introduce you to:

www.radionigel.com

I listen to this constantly at work!

However, it does not play stuff like this:

I heard Voices Carry on the way home today, so I just had to post something w/Aimee Mann in it, but I digress.

In any event, my agenda for the rest of the week:

Thurs.: Go to Rˇchean's and meet up w/Geddy Lifeson and possibly wisinger for some 'scape and maybe some LNoE and Black Ops.

Fri: Go to Ironman w/my son and Geddy.

Saturday: FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! and later play Queen's Gambit for the first time w/my son and hopefully someone else(s). :P

Sunday: Get caught up on everything else I've been avoiding (yardwork, etc.)

Is this thing on?

Posted April 30th, 2008 at 02:23 AM by ninthdoc
I've never had a blog, so pardon me if it seems that I don't know what I'm doing: because I don't.

Anyway, being in my mind is not always fun. I'm an old fogie who really wishes that the 80s were still around. I would miss the internet, but the music would not suck.

So here's what got me going last night. I'll apologize in advance, I had just come from The Flying Saucer in Addison so I probably was not in full possession of my faculties when this came on the radio and I began singing along with it at the top of my lungs:

You were warned.
