Well met!

Continuing my Kurosawa kick: Borrowed
text from primary web sources here. Then created a mashup of the characters from the movies with those available in C3G. Any resemblance is purely coincidental.

The Magnificent Ronin

(
The Seven Samurai and
The Magnificent Seven together and recast)

for 4 Players, 2 Teams
Last Man (or Woman) Standing

Once one of the Seven Samurai, a ronin and former leader of the group. The first "recruited" by the villagers, he is a wise but war-weary soldier.

Once one of the Seven Samurai,
a skilled archer recruited by Baron Zemo. He acted as the second-in-command and helped create the master plan for the village's defense.

Once one of the Seven Samurai, recruited by Hawkeye. An amiable though less-skilled fighter. His charm and wit maintained his comrades' good cheer in the face of adversity.

Once one of the Seven Samurai, a young untested warrior. The son of a wealthy landowner samurai, he left home to become a wandering samurai against his family's wishes. After witnessing Baron Zemo rescue a child who was taken hostage, Karate Kid desired to become
Baron Zemo's disciple.

Once one of the Seven Samurai, an old friend of Baron Zemo and his former lieutenant. Baron Zemo met Shi by chance in the town and she resumed this role.

Once one of the Seven Samurai, he initially declined an offer by Baron Zemo
to join the group, though he later changed his mind. A serious, stone-faced samurai and a supremely skilled swordsman whom Karate Kid is in awe of.

Once one of the Seven Samurai, a humorous character who initially claimed to be a samurai, she even falsified her family tree and identity.
Mercurial and temperamental, she identified with the villagers and their plight, and she revealed to the group that she was in fact not a samurai, but rather a peasant. Eventually however, she proved her worth.

Draft Strategy?

Well met!

An exercise: A solo mock draft. [Done late last night.]

Player 1 (#1): Lady Deathstrike. I like her Cybernetic Repair. Perhaps a hair better than Silver Samurai, perhaps not . . .

Player 2 (#2): Silver Samurai. See above.

Player 3 (#3): Kirigi was stupid good in Yojimbo!; by the points, I'd take Karate Kid (being a Karateka myself) over Shang-Chi. However, there are only 2 Archers, so I'm jumping down for one - Hawkeye.

Player 4 (#4): I could take
Green Arrow. But, as I can take 2, I'll go with the aforementioned Kirigi, and Masahiro Arashi, for his Yakuza Oyabun Special Power.

#3: There are plenty of fighters left, but only one with Master of Deception. I'll take Baron Zemo.

#2: By the points - Karate Kid.

#1: 2 picks. No more Arashi, so, by the points, Shang-Chi, and . . . Lady Shiva, for Assassin Training.

#2: potentially countering #4, Electra (a bit over Tomoe Gozan).

#3: Following #2's lead, I'll take Tomoe Gozan.

#4: My final 2 picks. Wow! Green Arrow got passed over!? Green Arrow. I'll also take Shi.

#3: Solomon Kane, barely, over Swordsman.

#2: Swordsman, leaving . . .

#1: Hit Girl.

So, we have:

#1:
Lady Deathstrike, Shang-Chi, Lady Shiva, Hit Girl.

#2: Silver Samurai, Karate Kid, Electra, Swordsman.

#3: Hawkeye, Baron Zemo, Tomoe Gozan, Solomon Kane.

#4: Kirigi, Masahiro Arashi, Green Arrow, Shi.

In retrospect (Sunday afternoon):

#1: Couldn't have gone much better, with
Lady Shiva giving Lady Deathstrike and Hit Girl Phantom Walk. The strongest team?

#2: Might have been better off taking Green Arrow instead of Electra.

#3: Was I wise to take Hawkeye so early, and Baron Zemo over Karate Kid?

#4: Lucked out, getting Green Arrow late. Guess I don't have to second guess taking
Kirigi and Masahiro Arashi over Green Arrow and Karate Kid.

I sought to make the drafting decisions a little subtler than just "drafting by the numbers."
