Wagguan?

Posted March 16th, 2019 at 02:24 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
I wish I could say the world was an older and wiser place. It’s certainly older, but not much wiser. Or maybe it’s just me?

Thanks for your greeting, Kowalski. My tribe are doing well. I do read things on this site weekly at least, but I don’t seem to have so much to say anymore. At some point one gets tired of one’s own thoughts and musings.

Three of my children are 18+. One is married. They have jobs and are finding their way in the world. They have begun to scatter, like baby spiders riding the wind with their little cobweb parachutes.

I have a 12 year old still at home, who has been brainwashed by fortnite. He’ll play Scape, but he doesn’t like to make decisions and lose. He likes shaking dice. We’ve tried playing 2V2 games- both of us on one side versus both of us on the other side, but he’s not really into it. He plays fortnite with all his friends and school mates so it’s a very social thing for him.

Break In

Posted March 23rd, 2018 at 12:46 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
It seems these three things set the stage for the robbery:

1) I had just baked banana muffins

2) I had been gluing figures and left them to dry on the dryer in the laundry room beside the window

3) It looked like no one was home even in the middle of the day

Now let’s examine these issues one at a time.

Baking
I used to bake a lot and am known for my baking skills. (yes, it’s a skill set; if you don’t believe it, that’s because you’ve never tasted anything that was made by a real baker)

When my kids were smaller I baked twice a week: cookies, cakes, muffins. But then I’d leave to go to work and when I came back half to three-quarters of the baked goods would be missing. I’d question the kids and they promised that none of them had eaten anything. So it was obvious that someone was breaking in and taking the cookies. Shocking, but it must be true because my children wouldn’t lie.

Dispatch From A Long War

Posted March 15th, 2018 at 01:10 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
We have been playing the same Scape game for more than a year now. It's a variant on our “big game” idea and obviously it’s the biggest game yet.

Our starting map was huge and unexplored. Factions had to explore squares and were likely to find outposts or bandits or ruins. If you found an outpost the 20d determined which faction it belonged to. We have almost 30 factions in this game. The diplomacy is so complicated we have southern gnolls fighting against a northern alliance which also contains gnolls.

our big game tracking board 3' X 3'

A lot of the battles are unequal points. Last night we had a huge fight that had been building for weeks.

The south western alliance is led by the Kingdom of Arc, with their allies Jandar, Vydar and Magmar. They had slowly been invading the Primadon/Lizardmen alliance. Before last night...

Two Art Shows

Posted March 9th, 2018 at 12:31 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
I recently went to an art gallery, something I do every once in a while. I like it because it’s quiet and I get to walk around and experience the art at my own speed- if it’s awful I move through quickly , if it’s good I can take as much time as I want.

Also, unlike the movies or theatre when you’re walking around in an art gallery you can look at the other people who are there and see how they feel about it. Sometimes they’re talking about the art and you get to hear multiple view points about it. If you bring a friend you can discuss.

A lot of people don’t seem to like art galleries. They find them boring and they don’t get the art and therefore they think that they themselves are stupid or uncultured or something. Let me assure you if you don’t get the art it’s because the art is crappy. It’s all about how it makes you feel and anyone who tells you otherwise is full of bad art.

There were two art shows in this gallery at the same...

Only Smoke Remains

Posted March 3rd, 2018 at 03:27 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
So, in the last blog I detailed my masterful win (white knuckle!) over my two sons in our 1200 point challenge. Unsurprisingly they wanted to play again the very next day. Those guys can’t stand to see me on top.

We’re you’re the champ you have to accept the challenge. It was a long day for me, a ten hour work day. When I got home they’d already chosen their armies and were waiting.

Should I take the Jandar army that had won the last game for me? It was definitely a strong option. But I know my sons learn from the games and I likely wouldn’t be able to do the same thing twice. I was thinking Vydar, because we have squads of Krav, but we haven’t gotten around to making any custom mages for that drawer. I’d won the last game because of the mages so I wasn’t willing to go without.

In the end I chose Samurai. The Samurai drawer is well filled out, thanks to the availability of lots of metal Samurai miniatures. I took three squads of...
