Most think I am weird though I believe them wanting in uniqueness. Many aspire to carve their own niche and end up blending into the sea of posers.

Water Turtle Wonders

So I get a Red Eared Slider for my step son's fith birthday. We keep the thing in the back yard in a kiddie swimming pool.
I go out and get river bottom sand and sleuse it to get all the fine particles out so the larger ones remain keeping the water from getting muddied. I put decent sized boulders and logs for sunning purposes while simultaneously stocking the pool with feeder fish and water plants. The place looks hip.
All the Turtle (Fred, female but the kid names it Fred) wants to do is try and escape. We get the water level right so it can't, or so we think, so we leave and go off fishing.
Tyler runs to the back yard to see "Fred" and comes back in the house concerned. "Fred isn't in the Tank!" "Sure he is Tyler, I turtle proofed turtle world so that all turtlieness is well contained. You're not looking hard enough." I say.
I saunter out to the back yard confident in my aquatic reptile containment system. No turtle. Dogs can't find the turtle.
Before leaving I remember the gardeners were at the neighbor's house and Fred was still a participating animal member of the Lawrence family. We leave and the Gardeners are gone along with the turtle...

I patrol the hood and find the suspects camped under a suspicious looking cottonwood. I inform them of the turtle-dicament we are experiencing and IF THEY happen to see the turtle to let us know.
A few days later I hear a lot of barking in the back yard. Low and behold Hank and Honey have Fred cornered and dug in at the furthest corner of the yard.
"You're a lot of trouble turtle." I say to my self.
A question one would ask. "Did the gardeners do it?". I have my assumptions but then you know what they say about those.

 That story is riddled with funny stuff. Too bad about almost losing the turtle, but you found it. Awesome use of 'turtle' words. |

Oh, that's not the kicker either...
Due to my guilt over allowing Fred to "Free" herself I went out and bought two Southern Painted turtles to fill the void Fred had burrowed in our hearts. Now two females and one male occupied turtledom. (Thanks NS) More turtle tales to tattle tommorrow.  |

I had a male that drowned himself too! I just thought he was suffering from estrogen overload though. He was a Southern Painted Turtle and lived with A female slider and female SPT. He would try to do his boogedy-boogedy mating dance for them, they'd get pissed and chase him 'round the tank biting his flippers.

Be careful, they carry alot of Salmonella that will get kids sick, the water is like poison. Assuming he stays in it
