I played in four tournaments at TotalCon last weekend. That should have meant eight or ten new units without too much effort, but I ended up with only five new ones.

For the championship, I put this project to one side and fielded what I thought was the most competitive army (that I wanted to play). No new units: Glads x3, Blasts x2, Raelin (RotV) and Isamu. It did the job---I went 4-0 and won---but the scoreline hides two ridiculously close games, both decided by 10pt margins. For the first, against Bengi, I can make a case I was better placed when time was called (I had about a squad each of glads and blasts and Isamu against a Feral Troll and a smattering of glads/blasts). For the other, against Kildawabit, there's no such case. I was outplayed and it came down to my Isamu against seven Romans, starting with three useless order markers on the blasts (I'd been banking rather heavily on winning initiative and some last-gasp running-and-gunning). At Pestered in Westford on Saturday I used Mimring, Krav Maga Agents, Drake (RotV) and Deathreavers x3, going 3-2. Mimring and Drake were new and I now just need Carr to complete RotV.

Given that we're probably getting about thirty new units this year (eight in Masterset 3 and ten or so in each of the two waves) I'll be hard pressed even to use units as fast as they're coming out. I should be able to up my percentage of units used from its current 38.6% however. I hope to be playing in five events at TotalCon next month; that alone could easily add ten new units.

Here's the list of particular targets after Carr: Major X17, Deathwalker 7K, Repulsors, Sudema, Microcorps, Laglor, Gorillinators, Agent Skahen, Blade Gruts, Arrow Gruts, Venoc Vipers, Roman Archers, Venoc Warlord and Tornak. This list will complete Alpha Prime, Vydar (for the moment) and Wave 1.

The NESA NHSD format called for two 440pt armies. Before each game a die was rolled and on a skull you played your A, on a shield you played your B and on a symbol you played your opponent's A. Here's how it affected my quest to play all units in tournaments.

My A army was Knights x3, Finn, Denrick and Marro Warriors. Finn and Denrick were new. I'm edging closer to completing RotV; just Mimring, Drake and Carr to go. As of this event, Jandar has taken the lead in highest proportion for general. This army went 5-0 so that puts Finn and Denrick out on top of the chart and the Marro and Knights at the top of those that have lost a game. The Marro almost catch the rats for best win difference score (wins minus losses).

My B army was Dividers x4, Ninjas otNW and DW8K. All new units, but a bit of a hodge-podge in terms of specific goals. DW8K moves me within three units of completing Alpha Prime and Isadora: X17, Repulsors and DW7K coming soon. The...

There have been a couple of tournaments since my last update. I used Knights, Gilbert and Dupuis at Beantown Beatdown V, giving Jandar and Earth a boost, and Romans, Marcus DG, Ne-Gok-Sa, Me-Burq-Sa and the Airborne Elite at Saratoga Slugfest II, giving a boost to Einar and Utgar and to Earth and Marr. I haven't used any Wave 9 yet, nor any Aquilla. Ne-Gok-Sa brings me one unit closer to using each of the RotV units in tournaments; just Finn, Drake, Carr and Mimring to go.

I went to Battle at the Border 2 at the weekend, so thought I'd update my tables of unit records. Two new units used: Obsidians and Warden 816. My 3-2 record means a slight hit for Q9, Raelin (RotV), rats and Isamu. I think these, and the other strong units, might be suffering a little as I work my way through some of the weaker units.
