My
First off, A big Thank You to all the under- appreciated volunteers who set up, tore down ran and managed all the events.
It was great to see all the familiar faces and a few new ones too.
We got previews of Wave 10 and the new Masterset, both are welcome additions to the game in my opinion.
I think most will agree that the repaints in Wave 10 look great. Even with only 2 "new" releases in this wave, I look forward to getting my hands on them.
I really appreciate that the earlier exclusives will be available to everyone and think it directly reflects the feedback from this website.
That said, I feel the new Masterset is also a fan driven product.
When Mr. Barclay was gauging reaction on the repainted tundra sets as a way to put terrain on the shelves of FLAGs many folks were put off by the idea of a set with no figs.
"We want new terrain with line of sight blockers and at least a few figs" seemed to be the general consensus.
Well, guess what we got...a smaller box with terrain, LOS blockers and some preexisting D&D minis for figs.
From what I've read, many of you are not impressed with what you saw. I do not share your opinion.
When I first saw the display, I was excited. The new dungeon terrain looks amazing and I'm hoping the shadow tiles give some sort of offensive/defensive advantages.
The idea of figures being able to equip themselves with glyphs and carry them will be a new twist many of us have toyed with in the past and I think the rock outcrops are a nice addition too.
Yes, the figs are re-based D&D minis. Yes, they're a little smaller than traditional Heroscape. You can argue paint and plastic all day long, but I still think they match up great with existing product and can see the drow as small stature elves and the dragon as a young one. (No troll will ever replace Krug!)
I don't think the Masterset is designed to make us all D&D players and it's not out there to pull them into our folds. It does offer some familiarity to both groups.
Save the sell-out, gloom and doom comments for when WotC makes a Magic deck based on Heroscape figures. That my friends will mark the death of our game.
This set was built, designed and playtested by fellow scapers and from what I've seen and heard, it looks to be an awesome release.
Again, just my

I too feel like the new editions to heroscape only means that Wizards is trying to revive the line. We are told that the D&D figures are getting new paint jobs which fixes that issue. I think the scale issue is bogus since every figure from every race should not be required to be the same size. What more do people want? This is a test and only a test. We'll see where heroscape goes from here. I am very excited for the direction heroscape is taking since only love is being showed so lighten up fellas!

I too think that the new master set is a good tie in overall with the game. I am sure there will be some over concerned parents that will be upset with the "D&D" tie in and not let there kid-o's (or themselves) play but I think that it will be a small crowd that fits into that category. Overall you have to remember, D&D is still a Juggernaught in the gaming world. Any tie in with their fan base and miniature base at this point is a win - win situation for Heroscape. I think back to nearly a year ago and folks were glooming and dooming that Heroscape was going to be lost to any new support. Besides, this may also give us a new way to play 'scape with some roleplay rules and elements. Nothing wrong with that. As for the scale thing, bah. There is no true scale in Heroscape. Just look at the Marro warriors. The dude riding on the dragon and the big headed thing from the SOTM sets are shrimps compared to your basic Marro warriors and they are supposed to be powerful guys. I have always felt that scale of Heroscape was never 100% established. What's a few more oddball figures in your collection?

Funny Convention Cycle: 1. People complain about the figures and terrain based on photos we get online. 2. Everything looks much better in person. 3. Staff explains that the night before the Con they were busy using Elmer's glue to hold the prototype together...
