Image of the Week

This photo is from the Speed Custom Contest and this photo comes to us courtesy of the winner, MITiger. Be sure and check out the rest of his photos and the other runner's up, here. Also, be sure to check the Custom Terrain forum for the next contest so you can enter your own creations!

Thread of the Week

A thread started just this Sunday explores the merits of banning units in casual play. The OP notes that Quote:
We feel the game has now become far more interesting because a far larger number of units can be drafted competitively.
For those out there whose games have become mundane and boring, try spicing it up a bit by using units you usually wouldn't. Part of Heroscape's allure is it's diversity, and using Q9/Laglor/Raelin/Deathreavers every time you play can subtract from the gaming experience

Event of the Week

Seemingly the only event this week, the NorCal Gameday offered gamers a chance to prepare for NHSD, continuing a trend found in other areas, in which tournaments or gamedays are held before big events like GenCon or NHSD to help players prepare. The thread for this event can be found here. Be sure to check the Events Calendar for events near you (and organizers, be sure to add your events to the calendar so others can see them!)

Since The Beginning, people have fantasized about figures coming out in new waves. This is nothing new. Two years ago, Jandar's_Hope started a thread about figure speculation. But what distinguished this thread from the others of its kind, however, is this remarkable exchange that started early on in the thread:

Quote:
"We need: -Better Archers (the ones at the moment tend to lack much att./def.)"

"...but you want an archer better than Syvarris. Hold on and let that sink in for me for a minute...

Okay...it didn't. If there's an archer released better than Syvarris, then he'd likely be the most powerful guy in the game. Too powerful probably."
Hmmmm...almost like some sort of samurai-shaped prophecy

Custom of the Week

For those of you who haven't already, check out Grishnakh's Custom Terrain. Grishnakh's particular customs are special, because he actually explains how to make your tiles look like his with his thorough tutorials. Having done them myself (Editor says: Einar's Puppy), I can guarantee satisfaction. Grishnakh's goal was to make the regular tiles look better, but since then he's branched out by making trees, rock formations, a tavern, and other goodies. He even explains how to make your water sparkly.

Scaper of the Week

We are continuing our feature on Hex_Enduction_Hour's blog, which shines a spotlight on some important members of the community. This week, it was Ninthdoc. Mr. ATF Agent's favorite unit is Johnny "Shotgun" Sullivan; I wonder why . Check out the rest of the interview here.

Non-HS Gaming Review

This week we would like to turn your attention to a fun little card game produced by Steve Jackson Games. The name of the game is Munchkin, and though many of you have heard of it, and some may despise the game, it is, at it's core, a fun light game that can be played with a few people, or a lot of people. It comes in many different versions, from the dungeon crawling experience of D&D to hitting the mean streets of Tokyo, Munhckin has something for (almost) everyone.

Week in Review

Boy has this week gone by fast, not only for us editors, but also for the boards. There are always tons of things going on, whether they be intensive army discussions and debates like in the NHSD army thread, CoN games finishing (and starting!) and people showing off their custom terrain. There is never a dull moment at Heroscapers.com!

OMG MITiger must be a play tester. Look at the date on the photo. He's had RotV and Wave 8 YEARS before it was out.

That bamboo is excellent! I love to have a combination of scenery that hinders movement, but not necessarily LOS.

Thanks for the kind words about my custom picture. I'll try to post a bamboo tutorial in a couple of days - it's really easy.

Yeah - I've really got to remember either turn that date stamp off or at least set it to the right date.

Awesome Picture of the Week! I hope Wizards will make some type of samurai themed scenery. Samurai training grounds?
