Hello and welcome to a new type of ARV article! While discussing amongst ourselves what kinds of content would be most appealing to our audience, we had the idea to try interviewing prominent users in the Heroscape map community. This is the first of these interviews.

This month we’re talking to OrcElfArmyOne, who is well known in the competitive scene of Heroscape. He made a current version of the Heroscape Power Rankings with current GenCon formats and trends in mind, and has a similar ranking of the BoV maps. He also selects the maps that are used at GenCon (here’s this year’s map list), and he was kind enough to answer some questions from fellow ARV judge Flash_19 and myself about the process behind assembling a map pool for the largest Heroscape gathering of the...

Well met!

We in NYC have just experienced a heat wave unprecedented in my experience. I will be spending August and half of September in Charlotte, NC. As we are flying (as opposed to taking the train), I will not be transporting any 'Scape stuff (and anyways I have no one to play with). Islandscape XIII was a last gasp bit of 'Scaping before I leave.

The plan is to do a lot of biking and Karate, and spend a lot of time in the pool (a small pool being part of the common facilities managed by our HOA). Last year, departing Charlotte at the end of August, it was 104 degrees with 100% humidity (too hot to rain). Of what I may encounter in the way of weather this year I am afraid - very afraid . . .

P.S.: Kudos (again) to Warbanner for hosting Islandscape this year. He did a wonderful job. Perhaps because of the heat, we were but seven, but we had a magnificent time and - I got a trophy! Third place (not Worse Luck).

TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry #31

It is curious how you can seem to be getting nowhere, and yet at the same time actually be unconsciously figuring out exactly what you think you can't solve.

Take BaoP. For a long time, I was banging my head against it, trying to find a theme to base the first installment on. 'I have to find a theme!' I kept telling myself. 'A theme! I need a theme! Everything starts with the theme!' Indeed, I've been telling myself (and anyone who would listen) this ever since I started writing.

As it turns out, I was wrong. Not completely wrong - you DO need a theme to lend your writing impression-leaving weight. But you do not, as I almost religiously believed, need to start with it. And as I suggested above, I discovered this quite by accident.

I had been trying to work with a vampire-centered tale for an iteration or two, but I had been failing to find a good theme. I would think I had one, but...
