10 years a knockin'

Wow, someone on the boards pointed out that HS been out for 10 years now. This game is insane! Between making maps, playing games, crafting customs, and all other 'Scape related things, it's been a wild ride. I remember playing while I was 13, but I'm pretty sure I was younger when I first got the stuff. I still remember special attacks working against Krav Maga Agents, and how Counterstrike was something like a Special Attack. Building Migol's Tomb from RotV and having Mimring and Grimnak attack my cousin and I's little fortress of units. The glyph of Ivor would grant all of your units +4 to range, and how Valda still granted the +2 bonus when you left it. As you can tell, we really didn't read the book until later on. XD
This eventually led to me getting a ton of the stuff for Christmas. I think that mighta been while I was 13? It was great, I had gotten an RotV, a SotM, some Wave 2 and the entire set of Wave 6! Bringing my old RotV (missing so many odds and ends) over, I had a heck of a collection.
Time goes on, and my collection grows in bits and pieces and by the time the DnD stuff started coming out, I was able to work over the summer. I had gotten 1 BftU but then I went ahead and bought 2 more! Best $80 I spent, especially since that set now goes for double. X_x
Fast forward a handful of years and here I am, a guy whose bedroom is the size of 4 mattresses side by side, and my room is now 20% HeroScape Stuffs. Among my Knights of Weston and Heavy Gruts stand units from C3V, like the Cathar Spearmen (both paintjobs), a Water-Worm who summons heavy rain and can cause Tsunamis, an entire Witch&Warlock faction, figures from Skylanders, a Superior Demon Spider Thing from Spawn I guess, and a Steampunk Tank with insane Movement rules who happens to bond with the Axegrinders. I've attended a few tourneys, met some cool guys, ran one, and I'm expecting to run a huge siege on an Utgar-Held Fortress built into the mountains, with rules to accomadate up to 5 players tonight.
It's been one of my greatest pleasures to meet y'all, either in the flesh and blood, or through text.
Maybe I'll have a house with a dedicated 'Scape room? Maybe someone will score a beautiful collection? Maybe this stuff will spend years in a Storage Unit down at Public Storage and will be revitalized when the wife tells me to go get the old photo albums for Little Johny's school project?
We will wait and see. 2024, your only another 10 years away.

4 years to go until 2024. I still remember how happy writing this blog post made me. Maybe I should go back to writing in here... |
