A Nasty Strategy

Posted January 12th, 2010 at 07:19 PM by Sup3rS0n1c
It's my first blog entry! Whoo!

In case you're wondering why I'm finally taking the time to post to my blog, it's because I'm stuck taking a course online in order to get my Learner's Permit, and I can zoom through each lesson in about half the alotted time. :P

Anyway, back to what I was originally going to write about.

You know how we now officially have four different order marker types, right?

Well, you also have to place four order markers each round: 1, 2, 3, X.

Let's say you have a full set of each color on you. Place one of each color, all with different symbols on your cards. While your opponent is looking away, you could switch out one of the order markers for a different symbol one of the same color. Your opponent wouldn't be able to tell the difference, right? ^_^

However, this would be considered cheating by many, if not all.

Because of this, I also thought up a legal strategy involving this.

You have a full set of each color. Place one of each color, all different symbols, on your cards. Continue using these four for about two or three rounds. Then, the next round, replace those four with four more, one of each color and one of each symbol. Just when your opponent thinks they have your markers all figured out, you flip their strategy onto its face, because all of the markers are different.

Sure, that's pretty mean, but it's both legal and effective ^_^

Ooooor...you can use a normal set of markers, and there is no way your opponent can figure out your markers...

Okay. fine. But multiple colors appeals to the child inside me ^_^

The second one is still valid, though.

Most players I've played with don't pay a whole lot of attention to OMs. At least, they don't try to guess which order markers are on which card. It's mostly just a glance every now and then to see if a card has and order marker (regardless of which one it is)...

Also, what Einar's Pup said.

I was wondering if, in tournaments, after revealing your #3 order marker do you also turn around your X marker? I only started doing this recently; as a courtesy to the other player. I mean, how do they know I don't have two #3 order markers?

Silly me...I actually was hoping for something of substance not the tired old "I could have two 3s and no X."

Alias, I typically reveal my X if I remember to do so.

The only thing at stake at a hersocape tournament is the respect of your fellow heroscapers; the wins and losses have very little impact but being a d-bag, cheating, rules lawyer certainly would.

Cheaters are every where, even at Heroscape tournaments, but since there is so little on the line (not sanctioned, no rankings, no cash prizes) it is not prevalent.

Honor...respect...trust....camaraderie..these are things I find most often at a scape tournament, not cheaters hiding dice rolls and fudging markers...though I have seen a sparse few of those, too.

Wouldn't bother, but some interesting game variants could result in changing up the OMs. We usually pay attention to what the other guy is doing on key turns late in the game!
