The D&D Heroscape That Came To Dinner
Posted December 28th, 2009 at 02:08 PM by kolakoski
Poor D&D Heroscape! Before he even came to town, he was trashed as ugly (sculpts), inferior (same), and an Uncle Tom (a sell-out).
Now that he's here, he faces segregation (D&D-only threads and the D&D-only Maps and Scenarios section), and accusations that his appearance will at best pollute Classic Heroscape, and at worst eliminate future generations of Classic altogether! The Petition for the Preservation of Classic Heroscape has become the haven of those Heroscape purists who hold the most extreme positions. It is clear that many of them would hang D&D Heroscape from a lamp post if they could get away with it.
Derek Jeter, Tiger Woods (Xcapades aside), and Barack Obama are the most prominant examples, but any geneticist worth his salt will tell you that hybrids are best. I have a dream that, someday soon, when the community looks at it, they will not see D&D Heroscape or Classic Heroscape, but Heroscape!
Peace
David

The naysayers seem to be an outspoken minority.
I showed my MS3 to some friends who don't frequent the boards much and they saw no hint at all of any drop-off in quality when it comes to the figures. (Although the Young Dragon is small). When it comes to the "segregation" of D&D scape scenarios and customs, I think it'll actually just make it easier for people to find and discuss what they want. |

<shrug> I thought it was pretty funny. Hopefully it was meant to be ridiculous over-the-top, yet dry, humor.

Hey, I'm the only one who's allowed to get it.

"The most creative individuals are those who live on the border between two cultures."
Actually, what's happened is that many who have been spinning their verbal wheels in a vacuum, now have specifics to get engaged about, and are happily discussing the info from the previews. Which is why its good that we have them. I've been skipping most of these debates to go for humor myself! |

In retrospect, I'm glad they did what they did with the D&D set and waves. Many of the units look like they could be classic Heroscape (Phantom Knights, Fen Hydra, Feral Troll and others) and overall they extended the life of the game by a few years. I love the shadow tiles, and even the dungeon tiles have their own use with certain units. The rock outcrops work beautifully with the RttFF set, allowing you to have more interesting terrain combinations.
It would have been nice if they sold a booster pack with two squads of the Deepwyrm Drow, since, they're common. They did that with the Zombies, so there's a precedent. (They probably should have done that with the Marro Drones, too). In the end, HS is still alive thanks to C3V/SoV/C3G, which I've had the pleasure to be a part of. Game on, Scapers! -Nick |
