FFC #108 - A Further Update on Dawn of Darkness

TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry #108

I wanted to give my readers a quick update on the status of DoD.

Over the past month or so, even before I started the development for DoD over, I've been having trouble sticking with it. I will sit down to develop what should an easy and straight forward part, only to lose interest soon after and switch over to something else.

In the last week, I've stopped trying to develop DoD completely, and have turned my attention to my novels instead. At this point there is no guarantee that I will return to DoD.

Despite the fact that this seems to be coming out of nowhere, it's been coming along for awhile now. Several times while developing, I would feel a deep lack of interest in the story. Some parts I enjoyed, yes, but the story as a whole never really gripped my imagination.

This is probably because I never planned on writing a sequel to my Utgar story. There was room for one, and the idea was certainly there, but not the interest. The only reason I decided to write DoD in the first place was because I wanted to write something, and DoD was the only plot I had available.

Unfortunately, it seems the lack of interest has finally caught up with me. I've stuck with DoD for two reasons: firstly because I know certain of my readers are looking forward to it, and secondly because I simply didn't have anything else to write. Nothing has changed there, but with the development finally grinding to a halt on its own, I can't seem to get the interest to restart it.

For that reason, DoD will remain shelved. I could get a new idea for the story which could spark my interest, but barring that, I plan on moving on to other projects. My novels remain a main focus for my writing brain, and smaller projects are possible, such as short mini-fictions, challenge stories, or competition submissions.

I will keep you updated with what is in the works.

Until then though, keep reading.

Rip in rest DoD, perhaps we'll see it again someday

While that is unfortunate to hear, I do wonder if the Heroscape revival may inject some new interest and ideas for stories moving forward. Who knows what they'll give us lore-wise to work with
