Freakin' Cramps
Yeah sure I'm going to be 41 next month (June 18th to be exact. Wave 8 would be a welcome gift
), but does that mean I'm hitting the falling apart stage of life?
For some reason that I can't figure out, I've been starting to get leg cramps either in the middle of the night or around 4am, about an hour before getting up for work. It started Monday night and I woke up with the cramp in my shin/calf area, and again the following nights. Heck, lastnight while laying on the couch watching a hockey playoff game, I got a cramp that was not only in the calf/shin area, but also ran up the back of my right thigh in the hamstring area. Then again in the middle of the night several times.
I haven't had leg cramps probably for at least 15 years and then it was an isolated insident and not re-occuring.
Am I going to heck in a handbasket? Anyone else have this experience?
The weird thing is that one of my twins had woken us up one night a little over a week ago with a leg cramp. We rubbed it and whatever and figured it was growing pains or whatever. I started getting them thereafter and she hasn't gotten one since. I've heard of sympathy pains, but this is ridiculous.

Just a suggestion, and you may have considered this already, but you might want to look into having your back checked out. Sometimes the pain of misalignment doesn't show up in the problem area, but does cause problems in other areas such as the legs. Either because the body is trying to compensate for a part of you unable to do its job right, or because of nerve signals a bit out of whack.
Either way, I hope you figure out what's going on. Random pain caused by something you have no idea about is the worst. |

Thanks for the suggestion hextrip. I hadn't thought about my back being the cause. While it may or not be the problem, your suggestion made me think what I may have done to hurt my back recently. Then after a few moments I slapped the side of my head and said "oh yeah!" I carried 26 sheets of drywall from my cargo trailer in front of the house, down into my basement last weekend. While I was pretty whooped afterward, I didn't feel anything in my back, but my legs were kind of rubbery. There in lies the mystery of the crampy legs I bet.
I wouldn't have remembered that if you hadn't suggested the back thing, so thanks a bunch. ![]() |

This may be a little late coming but...
It may mean that your potasium level is low. |

The other thing you may want to look at is something called Restless leg Syndrome. I have it and it feels a lot like cramping in the legs. In fact last night it was keeping me awake for awile. For me though it is pretty much isolated to my right calf and foot, but does migrate to my thigh and over to my left leg from time to time. It can be quite painful. I find that it really acts up when I am absolutly exahsted. Don't know if that is it or not, but could be. I do know that there is meds for the Restless Leg Syndrome, though I don't take them I just deal with it.
