Me + Basic economics + Heroscape
Jim, Eat Crow
or: 4 years and $13.50 shipping later...
I'm reminded of this blog post, where I contend that I'm not going anywhere.
And I wasn't. But I am. Kinda.
This week, I sold most of my semi-valuable figures. I was short on cash, and I hadn't played Heroscape a single time with my collection since GenCon outside of a cool tourney in Calumet City, IL.
I've still got figures that mean a bit to me, like my Gruts, Krug, Nilfheim, W1, W8, and the D&D stuff. But my keeping some of it has just as much to do with how little I can get for them.
I'm bringing this up not for pity or anything, but just to let people know what's up, and to make it less of a surprise for those who end up listening to the Plaid Hat Podcast episode 45 when it goes up next week. Many people would do this kind of thing quietly... but with nearly 7k posts, I didn't do much quietly here. I still spend a fair bit of time posting about games, but on BGG and summonerwars.com.
I probably won't be playing in any Heroscape tournaments this summer at GenCon. My local friends aren't even making the trip. I'll be staying with the PHG crew, and spending more time in the booth, and/or helping run the Summoner Wars tournaments.
I still believe that 'scapers are good people and it's cool to be a part of PHG and what Colby's doing. I just don't have the same level of commitment and desire to play Heroscape anymore. I'll still lurk from time to time, but I won't be a very enthusiastic army-consultant over the coming months.
Best,
JFS

The death of one thing is usually the birth of another. And its not like you can't borrow some figures if you need them... thanks for all your onsite insight and energy!

I hope that at the very least you can hang around the site some.
Good luck Jexik, and see you around! |

Truly the end (temporary interruption?) of an era. It'll stink not seeing you here as much; we joined the site around the same time and I feel like we came up through the ranks together, despite the fact that we traveled in different circles. You'll definitely be missed man, but as chas said, you don't need to own it to play it, so I hope you still get the occasional game in when you get the itch.

I'm in a similar boat. I've been kinda tired and inactive with Heroscape the past year-ish and haven't played since GC, aside from one game. In contrast, I don't ever see myself getting rid of any of it just cuz I've been attached for so long, and I'm hoping to get re-attached, or more attached than currently, in a near future.
I'm with ya on SW, what a great game (just returned to it the past week and I ask myself "why'd I ever leave?"). So much balance with so much depth, and still keeping it simple. I'll for sure be intensely focused on this game from now on. Keep up the superb work with playtesting it Jexik, and that goes to the rest of the playtesters. See ya in August, (and around the SW forums) Cody |

Thanks, guys. It has been a bit stressful lately. Got my 2nd degree black belt test for kyuki do this Saturday too.
I feel you Sherman. When I first came on the boards, I remember laughing a lot at the antics of necroblade and billtog, but you, me, and The Super Atheist were all contemporaries, joining and posting a lot that summer. We all chose different paths, clearly. When yours and mine crossed I found myself liking what you had to say. If I were more into customs or comics, I'd probably be more active, but I've started focusing more on other things. Odds are I'll see a lot of you if the Summoner Wars and 'scape tournaments are close to each other again. |
