FFC #26 - The First Installment

Posted March 12th, 2019 at 02:39 PM by The Grim Reaper's Friend
Greetings, readers. Despite giving you an update only a few days ago, I want to give you another one, since I few things have changed.

First, I have found a theme for the first installment of BaoP. The first phase of development is complete.

The second phase - characters - has been on hold because there are some things concerning characters which I would like to include in my development. Unfortunately, I currently don't have access to that information, so I've decided to go ahead with the current installment, and work in the new information on character development when I get it. Which should be by the next installment.

This first installment should be much shorter than my normal fan fictions (and I expect subsequent installments to be short as well). The main thing I'll be looking to work on in this installment is trusting the reader, which means less telling what the characters are thinking/feeling, and more showing/implying through actions....

FFC #25 - When your plan is so good it backfires...

TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry 25

Now that HiS is completed, my attention has turned to By Any Other Path. I wanted to give you an update on where I am with my final fan fiction.

As I'm sure most of you know by now, I've been trying to create a passive setting, that is, one which is completely disconnected from the story and tells the theme simply through its very existence.

Well, I've done that with BaoP. The problem is, I didn't realize that if the setting is disconnected from the plot/story, then so is the theme, meaning I have no base to build on. Essentially, I need to create another theme to work with in each individual fan fiction (which I knew would happen, but apparently hadn't thought through).

So that's where I am right now: trying to find a theme for the first installment of BaoP. There are no shortage of themes. But between finding one which I'm sufficiently interested in and keeping the big ones for my novels,...

TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry 24

Greetings, readers. I've been working on TLFF, and I'm super excited about the stories I can explore in it. The fiction will be set in Valhalla's future, so borders, alliances, and the like have shifted, but the rest is relatively unchanged. Before I get to TLFF though, I wanted to give you a quick update on where I am:

HiS. Dan's tale is fully written, proofread, and reviewed. There are several passages which I need to revise, but after that, I will begin posting. The revisions should take 1-3 weeks to complete.

TLFF. The Last Fan Fiction, entitled By Any Other Path, will be different from my previous fan fictions. It is a series. It is infinite, meaning the series never ends. It will instead be composed of shorter fan fictions all set within the same world and using the same characters. The world is all of Valhalla, and the characters are all the traditional HS characters, plus some of my own invention,...

FFC #23 - TLFF Takes Shape (Part 2)

TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry 23

Mandatory disclaimer: everything below is liable to change at any given moment, in any direction, and with no warning.

TLFF is at last taking shape. The passive setting I've been after for so long is here (just a few details to whack out), and I'm beginning to get a good idea for when the stories will take place.

My original idea was that I would start at the beginning, with the discovery of the wellsprings, the ensuing power struggle, the rise of the Valkyrie, the alliances and betrayals... all that good stuff.

Now, it looks very much like things will be starting many years into the war. This is because the setting is composed of an effect of the wellsprings, and that effect needs to 'build up' before the story can commence. I won't say exactly what it is; best to leave that for when it's released.

All units will be accounted for (minus Marvel), plus some...

FFC #22 - HiS Coming Soon

Posted November 27th, 2018 at 11:23 AM by The Grim Reaper's Friend
TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry 22

I have now completed the proofreading and editing of HiS. The size has been modified to 220 pages, 119,996 words.

Bigga still has to look over it, and it's uncertain when he'll be able to get to it, as he is currently busy. Hopefully within a few weeks though he'll be able to power through it. After that we just have to work out any changes based on his comments, and we're good to go. The release date entirely depends on how soon Bigga is able to work his magic. So no pressure, Bigga.

Fair warning: it is going to take a long time to post all of HiS. Several of the chapters are quite long, so I'll have to break them up. I intend to post at least once a day if I can, but even doing that, and even if I post a whole chapter a day, it would be two months before the whole thing is posted.

Hopefully my writing can keep you interested.
