While lying on the beach, I have been brainstorming. . .

Pathfinder figure from Contenders and Champions: Irori, God of Perfection

WU XIN
General: Aquilla
Human, Unique Hero, Priest, Disciplined, Medium 5
Life 5, Move 5, Range 1, Attack 3, Defense 3

PENETRATING BLOW
After attacking normally with Wu Xin, if a skull was rolled, roll a 20-sided die.
If you roll of 1-12, nothing happens.
If you roll 13-15, the defending figure receives 1 wound.
If you roll 16-17, the defending figure receives 2 wounds.
If you roll 18-19, the defending figure receives 3 wounds.
If you roll a 20 or higher, the defending figure receives 6 wounds.

LIFE IS SACRED
If Wu Xin would inflict enough wounds to destroy a figure, roll a 20-sided die. On a roll of 1-4, destroy the figure normally. On a roll of 5 or higher, place the figure in its Start Zone with 1 Life remaining.

DEFLECTION
If Wu Xin is targeted for and receives 1 or more wounds from an attacking figure that is not adjacent, roll the 20-sided die. Count the minimum number of spaces between the attacker and Wu Xin. Add this number to the die roll. If you roll a 15 or higher, ignore any wounds Wu Xin may have received and you may choose an opponent’s figure that is adjacent to Wu Xin to receive those wounds instead.

HEALING HERBS
After each Round, you may remove a wound marker from Wu Xin or a figure adjacent to Wu Xin.

P.S.: Any similarity to the Shaolin priest hero of Kung Fu, the tv series, is purely intentional. His monastery was destroyed due to an act of vengeance on his part. For that among other reasons I have chosen not to make him a member of the Monk faction. In the series, he was able to break heavy tree branches with his bare hands, deflect spears thrown at him, never killed intentionally, and carried herbs for healing.

Made several changes to Wu Xin, including his name, since original posting. Also came up with some ideas for Captain Xue.

Life 5, Move 5, Range 7, Attack 3, Defense 3

CAPTAIN’S PREROGATIVE
When revealing a numbered Order Marker on Captain Xue’s Car͏͏d, you may take a turn with Captain Xue or any unique hero you control.

DOUBLE ATTACK
After attacking normally, you may attack 1 additional time.

SOLAR WIND SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 8, Attack 3
After moving and attacking normally, reveal the “X” Order Marker on Captain Xue’s Car͏͏d. Choose a figure within 8 clear sight spaces of Captain Xue to attack. All figures adjacent to that figure are also affected. Roll defense dice separately.

Well met!

I always welcome comments on the customs I post (or anything else for that matter). In my mind, all are tentative. Questions abound:

Is Penetrating Blow being a reiteration of Chilling Touch a problem?

Does Healing Herbs play better with Life reduced from 5 to 4? Is it superfluous?

How will Life Is Sacred actually play?

What Class would fit Captain Xue other than Captain to avoid synergy with Pirate heroes? Is it legitimate to prohibit non-unique heroes and squads?

I’d love to give Captain Xue’s pistols a Special Attack, in addition to, or instead of, Solar Wind Special Attack, but I fear “in addition” is too strong while “instead of” wouldn’t be as interesting/fun to play.

Is Solar Wind Special Attack allowed to target a space?

What does the Gang think?

And, of course, is anything an SoV non-starter?

Upon Reflection . . .


Well met!

I’ve decided to keep Captain Xue’s Class as it is. First Officer Bok-Bor-Na’s Intimidate mitigates the desire to improve her pistols’ offensive capability. I’m not sure the restrictions on army building are necessary to discourage too much dependence on Pirate Unique Squads, given Captain’s Prerogative, so I’m taking them out (see above). Thematically, still more ruthless Pirate than benign Firefly captain, especially given her dependence on her First Officer, but I think she’ll be fun and interesting to play.

May test as soon as February’s game, but certainly in March, when I will be Hosting. Very pleased with how she turned out.

P.S.: Will probably let Wu Xin go, and focus on testing Captain Xue.
