Vigil

Posted October 15th, 2016 at 08:46 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
One of the squires from my medieval program sat vigil last night. Itís one of the steps to becoming a knight. Usually the squire receives a vision, and then they know the vigil is complete.

We take our knighting seriously. Most pages will take years to become squires, and then they work for years as squires before they consider attempting knighthood. The vigil is ancient- in medieval times squires knelt in churches considering the world and their part in it.

Our medieval program isnít nearly as strenuous as the ancient reality. Kids learn by experience but then they go home and eat pizza and play on their ipads. But there is something that draws some of them and keeps them coming back to the medieval program over and over again.

Last night the squire was nervous, which is reasonable. Kneeling all night in a darkened and supposedly haunted room to face your fears and your future could be considering daunting. Fear is powerful force...

Knives Everywhere

Posted October 5th, 2016 at 11:07 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
It was a beautiful morning for walking. Itís supposed to be a hot day but this morning was cool with a light breeze. It takes me about forty minutes to walk to work so I have to leave early which means the streets are pretty deserted. Good walking.

I could see him from a distance as I neared the university. Itís a nice place to walk through because itís all pedestrian and there are lots of big trees. Itís also a short cut. He was sitting on a bench, wearing dark glasses and watching the cars in the intersection a couple dozen feet away.

Ever get a vibe that there is something wrong with a person? I got one from this guy. Was he homeless? Maybe. He had on a light jacket, baseball cap and long pants. He had a backpack with him. Who wears long pants and jackets on summer mornings? Homeless people. But I could have been wrong. Maybe he was just a cold student. Students have backpacks. I had one on my back myself.

I like walking...

C3V/SoV Blasting Back Into Action!

Posted September 20th, 2016 at 01:51 AM by truth
Blasting back into action with blades bared and guns blazing, it's the SoV and C3V!

Wave 20 is lurking around the corner with a new format for releases that will get units out faster so you can deploy them on your battlefields as quickly as possible. Rather than putting all four packs of a wave out at once, we'll release booster packs as soon as they are ready. This means that the first booster for Wave 20 will be hitting the 'scapers home page this month! Then, over the coming months, you'll get the rest of Wave 20 in regular hits of C3V 'scapey goodness.

Exactly what 'scapey goodness, you ask? Well, that depends on you---the units that get playtested will be packaged up and delivered to you as fast as we can. Playtesting is the most important step in maintaining the high quality of C3V customs and relies heavily on community involvement. Go here to find out...

CRAIG VAN NESS is HERE!

Posted September 13th, 2016 at 10:38 AM by truth
As seen in the past couple of front page posts, the lead designer of Heroscape, Craig Van Ness, is now independent, starting his own game company with his brother, Jeff.

Part 2 of he and his brother's video series/vlog is here, talking about their logo design:
I'm enjoying watching their journey and can't wait to see their first game.

That said, I may have buried the lede here, but being independent also means that Craig now has an account here, at Heroscapers, and is posting in the forums! If you've got a question for him, have a look at this thread, and ask away!
