So @LoveElemental is coming to Clevland tomorrow. Hopefully she'll have a good time. I know I will. She's going to be in town until the 28th. We gotta make all the best time from it.

We were considering going to the casino to play the pennyslots... she's lucky, but we're both broke 20-somethings. Maybe she'll turn a $10 profit.

We do want to play some Heroscape while we're together. And some other games I've bought over the years, for example I'm super excited to play Twilight Struggle with her. I also want to give Summoner Wars an honest go, but I'm ok if we don't get to that.

As a more plasticrack-birthday present to myself, I've gone ahead and ordered this guy from miniature market.

C3G Strategy - September 2018

C3G Strategy Guide
Ares

I’ve always loved mythology, ever since I was very young. I also enjoy Heroscape battles that turn into fast-paced, bloodsoaked massacres. Let’s have a look at a unit that scratches both itches, shall we?

Analyzed Statistics

Left Box Breakdown
Species – Olympian (no effect)
Uniqueness – Event Hero (event heroes are similar to unique heroes, but they have extra defenses, e.g. they cannot be mind-controlled or auto-killed, and do not count as unique heroes for the purposes of special powers—read the full event hero rules)
Class – Warlord (no effect in pure C3G, though he is able to bond with the Roman Legionnaires if playing mixed—at which stage you’re legally obliged to call him

FFC #19 - CHALLENGE: Writing Characters

Posted September 14th, 2018 at 01:00 PM by The Grim Reaper's Friend
TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry 19

I wanted to give my readers a quick update on Horizon in Sight. The fiction is moving along. I've split part two in half, so there are now four parts in total. This is shaping up to be the longest thing I have ever written, fan fiction or otherwise.

Part three introduces a lot of new side characters, and upon writing them I've realized that they aren't quite as alive as I would like. My writing process is great for assigning character traits and working out what they need for the fiction and how they go together. In short, it deals with the technical side of things.

Unfortunately, the only way to make characters be alive - that is, actually feel like a real person - is to make them real in your mind, to the point where you automatically know how they would act and what they would say. And the only way to do that (at least properly) is just to spend time exploring them, usually through the use of writing...

Silent Death - My New Obsession

Posted September 6th, 2018 at 11:32 AM by kolakoski

Well met!

chas recently picked up a copy of Silent Death Next Millennium, a miniatures game released in 1995, which I had never heard of. I'm shocked, shocked, that it is so little known, as it is wonderfully elegant. With Taeblewalker, we played it last night, and had a blast!

From a review in BoardGameGeek:

Silent Death: The Next Millennium is the second edition of the Silent Death game published by Iron Crown Enterprises in 1995. This edition was written by Matt Forbeck.

Silent Death is one of my favorite games of all time. I have always had a blast playing this game.

The boxed set includes a 168 page rule book, scenario pack, tables and ship display pack, 48 plastic fighters (4 each of 12 types) and stands, 248 miniatures of missiles, torpedoes and asteroids,
