Live dangerously. Rebase your figures.

By now this pic has gone the Heroscaper's equivalent of viral. It's a giant demon lord, how could you not like it? But for all it's popularity I'm really not happy with the rebasing job. It was one of my earliest, and I learned a lot from it. So here's all of my rebased figures with explanations on how I did them. Note that this is not to show off my photography skills or for people with irrational aversions to glue.

The Balor. The most famous of my customs, but also one of my first rebased figures. I simply took a pair of wire cutters and cut around the feet, leaving the base under them. I then glued the figure to the base. Today I would have cut the off with a knife, the cutters, or sanded them off. I was worried about ruining the feet. I've considered redoing several times, but I don't have a large base in decent condition, so for now I'm fine with it as is.

I did the same thing here that I did with the Balor, but the difference here is that the figure is actually molded with the base, and the base has the same coloration, so I think it looks a lot better. Not perfect, but better. I also learned something about cutting DnD bases. Dnd bases are both soft and strong, so there's a lot of potential energy involved when cutting them. Watch where your fingers are. You do not want that energy, and your knife, going into your finger.

This was my first repaint, and probably my least favorite. I cut the figure off of the base (sending a lot of energy into my finger). And glued it to the base. The problem is that it took a lot of excess glue to balance the figure, so it doesn't look very good. Not to mention that you can see where the old figure was attached. This is an example of what not to do when rebasing figures.

I really like this rebasing. Once again I used wire cutters (I cannot preach these things enough). I then ran the bottom of the figure's feet across a bench sander. DO NOT turn the sander on, just rub the figure on it. Turing it on would likely rip the figure apart. This will level out the feet, and will also make them rough, which helps with gluing.

Mageknight figures are very easy to rebase. Just take the wire cutters (I love these things) and snip them off at the feet. It helps to have someone holding the figure while you do this, because I've found that without it Mageknight figures make excellent high-velocity projectiles.
