TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry #38

My last update listed some of the biggest and most pressing problems I have with my writing. There are of course plenty more problems, all of which are preventing me from writing the novels I would like to. I have compiled these problems into a 'checklist' so that I can keep track of them, and cross them off as I deal with them. That will give both me and you a good gauge of what I need to do before I can start my novels. It should also serve to keep me on track.

If you have any suggestions for that list, please let me know. A story's worst critic is its author.

Onto Eternity. I have, once again, changed the story. The problem I had with the last few iterations was that I never liked the direction the story took. It didn't set up any sequels, and it didn't really show the war on Valhalla the way I envisioned it. The newest iteration shows the war better, and definitely has some potential for sequels (and might possibly require them). So that's in the works.

In the last FFC, I mentioned I was reviewing Pixar's method of creating stories. I've done that, and I'm in the process of updating/revising my own writing process based on what I've discovered. It's looking far simpler than it ever has. Hopefully that's a good sign.

My plan for all of this is that if I can get started with Eternity, it should generate sequels just fine on it's own (since my writing always seems to do that). That's been the main holdup. Once that's happening, I can start focusing on the checklist I've made, and begin to hammer out the things I need to fix/improve. Once everything on the checklist is crossed off, I'll move on to novels. You all get advance copies.

Until then though, I need to get the process in shape. I'll keep you updated.

P.S. The thing I might have possibly posted (mentioned in the last FFC) did not work out. The writing was horrible.

To test the process, I'm using the latest iteration of Installment One. So far, things are moving along quite smoothly.

Some difficulties arose with the 13th iteration (a bit of a high number, even for me), and I thought I'd have to scrap the whole idea. I was able to change the basic structure of the story into a more plausible format however, and am set to redo the crucial bits tomorrow.

Has anyone told you you sound like an engineer or something when you plan writing?

@TheAverageFan I've told myself that plenty of times, but other than that, you are the first. And I'll take it as a compliment.

I've temporarily paused the development while I do some research on character arcs.
