Masha Shingai vs Fen Hydras

Which Units Survived?
2 Phantom Knights, Concan (4 wounds)

Game Summary:
A Fen Hydra crossed the river with Ornak’s Flag of Fury and then catapulted across the road, killing 2 Izumis by the second turn. The second hydra claims Unique Attack +1. Masha Shingai took 2 wounds from the first Hydra, which was attempting to fully leverage the glyph. His aura saved his life here thanks to some close rolls.

Masha Shingai didn’t do much other than tie up that Hydra for a couple of rounds as Leo prioritized positioning his other figures. His one attack was a failure, and the Izumi were decimated before he could avenge them. His aura also discouraged me from attacking the hydra that he was engaged to as a result, because I was completely unconfident in the Phantom Knights’ 2 attack while in it.

Unfortunately, my figures kept rolling poorly for attack, unable to break through either Hydra’s defense reliably. With the attack glyph under Leo’s control, he was able to whittle away my knights without many casualties. I finally got in a couple of good hits during the latter half of the game, bringing his Hydras down to 1 attack each.

The next round was an initiative switch, letting me kill both of his hydras finally and engage Brunak with Concan, who then proceeded to fall flat on his face no less than 6 times, whiffing 5 attacks of 5 and only afterwards getting enough skulls to kill Ornak. During the entire last round, Brunak, Ornak, 2 PKs, and Concan battled on a hill until my army finally came out on top.

Usefulness of Powers
Masha Shingai lasted surprisingly long thanks to his Aura of Terror, despite his 3 defense. He whiffed his only attack and never got the chance to boost the Izumi Samurai, so Burning Spite was never activated. His Aura of Terror was just too short to reach the Fen Hydra the turn that the Izumi were annihilated, so things might have been different if the Izumi had stopped just one space closer. Alas, this didn’t happen, leaving his impact on the game relegated just to a standalone character.

Keeping that in mind, he had a somewhat decent effect by tying up a Hydra for so long. Once it attacked him with the Glyph, he fell somewhat quickly… but then again, what wouldn’t against 4 attacks of 5? He did notably weaken the Phantom Knights against the Hydras, though, since they really wanted that extra attack die to have a chance of breaking through the Hydras’ defenses.

Additional Comments
Concan has made a complete fool of himself on this day. 25 dice (5 attacks boosted by Ulaniva) yielded a grand total of 3 skulls. Why, Concan?

Also, two Hydras with the Glyph of Ulaniva is downright terrifying.
