FFC #10 - Will I repost Dilmir?

TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry 10

Those following my FFC (Fan Fiction Chronicles), know that recently, I have been considering something I never thought I would: reposting Dilmir.

Following a major slump in interest for HiS, I took it upon myself yesterday to review the Dilmir trilogy. I wanted to see where it stood, and just how likely it was to be reposted. It took me two days to read all three books, and the results are in. How likely is it Dilmir will be reposted?

Not very.

There are a few small reasons, but I could work around those. The main reason is that the theme of all three books... well to be honest, I no longer agree with it.

Shortly after writing Dilmir, I started to figure a few things out. My thoughts on the theme completely reversed. It was right after the third book too, because I remember thinking how I could introduce a sequel with Dilmir as the main villain, and have him convinced of this new information I had found.

This is a problem. I cannot in good conscience repost Dilmir, not when the theme is the very opposite of what I now believe. At the same time, I cannot rewrite Dilmir's tale with the new theme, because, to be quite honest, I do not know how to do so. It is not a matter of writing skill.

Knowing that, there is only one way I will ever repost Dilmir, and that is if I do a total rewrite, with a totally unrelated theme. That is not likely, as it would be a completely different tale, and I would then have no reason whatsoever to tie it to Dilmir or even Feylund at all.

The other part is that the only point at which I could do this rewrite would be between HiS and By Any Other Path. And at the moment, there is no gap between the two, and neither does there need to be. The only way there will be is if BaoP turns out to have problems, and needs to be fixed before I can start developing it (that very scenario is actually how I was able to write HiS).

Both of those things could happen, but they are very unlikely. And if there is time to write an extra fan fiction before BaoP, there is no guarantee it would be related at all to Dilmir or Feylund.

So in short, things are not looking good for the respoting of Dilmir.

Several of you had expressed interest in seeing it, and I'm very sorry about disappointing you. This is why I need to learn to keep my mouth shut about the endless possibilities in my head until they are more solid realities.

I will keep you updated, as always, on all my writing endeavors. HiS is moving along, albeit very slowly. I'm a lot closer to the end than my signature suggests, although there is now a possibility the final book could be related in a chapter or two, and will therefore have to be tacked onto the end of the third book.

Too bad about Dilmir but it must be done. Sadly the whole work wouldn't function if the theme is off, so it's a good call. If you don't mind me asking, what was the theme of Dilmir?

~TAF, also agonizingly slow on his endeavors

@TheAverageFan Unfortunately I cannot tell you. It's for the same reason I can't rewrite it with the correct theme. I'm not trying to be cryptic... I just don't know how to explain it without running into the reason I can't relate it. All I can say is that is extremely fortunate I found the problem when I did.

The only way I can really explain it to you would be in private, and if you are a Christian. And no, it's not a religious theme. If you are a Christian, I would be happy to tell you the theme and accompanying problem.

~TGRF, feeling like he's left only more confusion in his wake.
